treesprite May 4, 2008 May 4, 2008 I had moved one of the powerheads in my office nano before the weekend. Today I came to work and found the top of the xenia caught up in the intake. Not as disgusting as seeing it happen to an anemone, but I feel sorry for the xenia. The lights weren't on yet when I got here a little bit ago, so I'm still waiting to see if the xenia acts normally. It's not a very big xenia (in a nano afterall), but it had 2 branches that were not split that now just in a couple days are, and each of those looks like they are starting to branch in half. I guess it's trying to preserve itself. I wonder if I will see some little xenias popping up since the powerhead has blown some bits of it around the tank.
treesprite May 4, 2008 Author May 4, 2008 (edited) It opened up in response to the light so I could see that it split of exactly the section that was caught, so I cut the branch off in concern of it polluting the tank. I'm probably the only person in the building who keeps a razorblade in her/his desk. Hey, I just turned around and the whole rest of the xenia perked up now that the branch is gone! It's not pulsing but it's not all scrunched up and the branches aren't leaning over anymore. Unfortuneately I am going to be going through the rest of the workday with the smell of xenia on my hand Edited May 4, 2008 by treesprite

Highland Reefer May 4, 2008 May 4, 2008 This is the first time I've heard of someone fragging a Xenia with a power head.
treesprite May 4, 2008 Author May 4, 2008 Xenia smells? Hmmm... bob When you cut it with your bare hands it leaves your hands stinky.
NRehman May 5, 2008 May 5, 2008 Wow! Bare hands!! You must change your handle to "Xenia - Warrior Princess"
treesprite May 5, 2008 Author May 5, 2008 I threw that little branch in the trash in teh bathroom at work instead of the toilet... rotting xenia has avery nasty stench, and had it not been at teh bottom, I'd maybe have taken out and flushed it. I went in the other bathroom the rest of the day.

Guest webshout May 5, 2008 May 5, 2008 Xenia is quite possibly the stinkiest thing on the planet, aside from a weeks worth of skimmate collection. I don't know about 6 weeks worth, but the skimmat produced by the skimmer I got from steveoutlaw regularly makes me gag with only 1/2 cup of skimmate. I guess the skimmer is really working if the skimmate is really foul! Treesprite, thanks for the heads up about xenia. I'd've never guessed it could be stinky.

hbh May 7, 2008 May 7, 2008 I'll second the xenia smell. I scraped some off of some plastic with an old credit card and placed it on some rubble rock. EVERY time I put my hands near my face I could smell it. Worse than a formula fed baby's diaper. I put the plastic in the trash and could smellit outside the bathroom. Next time I'm wearing gloves. Never thought to frag xenia by pump.... A new fast method of fragging xenia? Hmm. Have to think about that one. Treesprite - I have a few pices of rubble rock for you. One with red zenia if you want it.

Now, I am curious about red xenia - is it really red? The one in my tank at home is almost brown, and the one at work which was a frag from it is pale pink... got T5s at home and PCs at work, so maybe that's the difference.

I'll bring some and you can tell me. This week is crazy so let's try next week w/ me stopping by your work? Don't worry about the frogspawn, I bought a nice piece and the clowns are leaving it alone because they have 2 nems to beat up. See you!
