Highland Reefer March 8, 2008 March 8, 2008 (edited) I have my wish list going for when the termites start swarming again (actually they are just starting to swarm now). In other words I am broke right now. What I want to do is to add a frag tank, refugium & a deep sand bed into my current system. I have provided a drawling of the layout I have currently. I am not sure exactly how these items should be added into my system with all the factors involved. My basic idea is shown in the diagram. However, Some of the items may or should be added in at a different part of the system. Any imput, suggestions, etc. are welcome. Edited March 8, 2008 by Highland Reefer
Highland Reefer March 9, 2008 Author March 9, 2008 (edited) After doing some addtional research, I think I should re-arrange my previous layout for adding the new items to my system. I have concerns where the frag tank would be placed. What do ya think? Edited March 9, 2008 by Highland Reefer
JMsAquarium March 17, 2008 March 17, 2008 I think the frag tank is fine where it is on the second drawing. Why not plumb the DSB in line with the refugium? I took the liberty to copy your drawing and edit the location of the DSB. Hope you do not mind.
Larry Grenier March 17, 2008 March 17, 2008 (edited) Ya know... I'm a simple guy and this may sound kinda simple, but why-not have Jeff NAGA make a pimped-out combo 1-piece frag/fuge/RDSB. 3 compartments with flow from one to the next. Water in at one end and water out at he other with an extra powerhead in the frag section. Suspend lights over the whole thing with brightest over the frag section. Less PVC & valves. I'm personally thinking about the same thing wih a 4th section for mangroves. Edited March 17, 2008 by Larry Grenier

Highland Reefer March 17, 2008 Author March 17, 2008 Thanks, Guys for the input. I have been talking to Jeff about what I want and he does some sweet tank work. Mangroves sounds good. What kind of lights and substrate do you need for them. I have plenty of room in the basement, which is suppose to be mine according to the wife. I am definitely into gardening.
Highland Reefer March 18, 2008 Author March 18, 2008 The regular colored areas are what I have currently and the shaded areas are what I want to add on. At least that's the way I tried to draw it. I already have that Hayward filter in my system, which was recommended by the Totaly Fish owner In Silver Spring before he went out of business. :( I didn't know anything about reefing at the time and was taking his advise. Now I just use it when I clean the bottom, to help clean-up the water. I can bypass it. I does do amazing job of clearing the water.
