yagerboy March 5, 2008 March 5, 2008 I just bought 3 Koralia powerheads for my 180 gallon mixed reef and looking for suggestions from experience on best placement. Is it best practice to use a test and trial approach? I recently got rid of a lot of LR and now most of it is along the back with the front mainly open. My corals are sporadically arranged within the LR. Thanks for any advice.
rsarvis March 5, 2008 March 5, 2008 I used to have two K4s in my 180 on opposite side walls, placed toward the top front corners. I used a couple smaller powerheads toward the back. My rock work and corals made it so I couldn't really put it toward the back which is what I would have preferred, probably, to keep them a little less prominent. It worked fine. (I only have one K4 right now, as I wait for the replacement K4 to come.)

I have one K4 on my 90....stream is a split stream not solid like the tunze or any other powerhead....I have the K4 on the back right corner at the top w/ one stream aimed to run the length of the tank at the back (keeps current behind rock work) this aims the other stream at a 45 degree angle to the front glass....basically at center of tank. I like the placement however, have had to move a few SPS pieces because the stream is too strong at 10" from K4.....they are growing like they have been placed infront of a wall... Larry Grenier March 6, 2008 March 6, 2008 (edited) I'm planning on putting 2 K4s in my 96 which in 42"L X 24"D X 22"H and was thinking about putting them in the rear corners pointing forward and slightly towards the center. The flow whould hit the front and disburse widely from there. Good idea for yagerboy and/or myself? Only half hijacking Edited March 6, 2008 by Larry Grenier
