jason the filter freak December 19, 2007 December 19, 2007 I recently purchased a tank float switch set up from autotopoff.com and was very pleased with the opperation and "engenerining". How ever the wiring on the float switches were not designed for tall tanks. Can I lenghten the wiring going to the float witches by splicing in wires of the same diameter. I only need to add 2 feet or so.
YBeNormal December 19, 2007 December 19, 2007 Yes, just keep the splice out of water and protected from moisture.
jason the filter freak December 19, 2007 Author December 19, 2007 Heat shrink tubing would work ok for moisture protection?
YBeNormal December 20, 2007 December 20, 2007 Depends on how well it seals. I had a splice in one pair of ATO wires about 4" above the water line (due to poor thinking on my part) that I sealed with heatshrink and liquid tape. It worked fine for about 6 months then the ATO began to act up. It took me a while to figure out that it might be the splice but when I pealed the seal away I noticed that the copper wire had oxidized and was shorting out.
bigJPDC December 20, 2007 December 20, 2007 you could do some kind of thing where the float switch wiring was fed up through a small hole in a 1/2" pvc cap, then up through more pvc - sealing the part where the wire goes through with epoxy. I really can't imagine putting a splice under water - buy another float switch. jp
jason the filter freak December 20, 2007 Author December 20, 2007 (edited) i can splice at least 1.5 feet away from the water. I just need to lengthen it Edited December 20, 2007 by jason the filter freak
extreme_tooth_decay December 20, 2007 December 20, 2007 Sounds like it's about time for a larger tank.
