zotzer October 30, 2007 October 30, 2007 The pre-skimmer box for the Remora Pro with Mag3 pump is a monstrosity (ie: HUGE). I am wondering if I could rig one of these little surface skimmers to the intake of the Mag3 as a substitute. Do you think this could work? Tracy
madmax7774 October 30, 2007 October 30, 2007 that would probably work. It really all depends on how good your fabrication skills are. Inevitably you will get 90% of the way complete, and then realize that you require a fitting or part that doesn't exist. That's where the real fun begins.

zotzer October 30, 2007 Author October 30, 2007 I was thinking that I'd attach the hose part to the intake of my mag, and attach the surface skimmer to the side of the tank. I'm sure I'd need to come up with some way to make the hose fit on the intake, but how hard could that be? Tracy

zotzer October 30, 2007 Author October 30, 2007 Both the pump and the surface skimmer are submerged in the main tank. Why would the pump need any priming? There is an intake on the bottom of the surface skimmer, as well as the top, from what I can tell. Right now, the pump just sucks water in from mid-way down in the tank. This way, it would just suck from the top of the water level and break the surface tension...no? Tracy

Create so much suction that it would draw air? bob bingo, i tried about three different designs on the exact same mind track tracy was and nothing worked the mag just kept running dry, perhaps there is a way that would work, but I just ended up covering the overflow box

I'd have to install a "U" tube to connect it to the skimmer. Not sure how that might affect the performance of the Remora. Also not sure if I have the room to point the pump intake away from the skimmer outlet. Hmmmm, will have to play around with that idea. tracy

I have a couple of small powerheads in my nano. One of them is set up to agitate the surface; but agitation just does not = surface skimming. I end up with a lot of very well agitated 'gunk' on the surface, that I end up hand-skimming during water changes. bob
