modelrr September 9, 2007 September 9, 2007 I've been doing B-ionic lately, and am quickly finding out that it's going to be very expensive in the long run.... any suggestions for an alternative? calcium reactor? I need something as inexpensive as possible btw I have a light-medium calcium demand in my tank
dhoch September 9, 2007 September 9, 2007 kalk reactor might be your next best bet... calcium reactor after that... Dave
djcerna September 9, 2007 September 9, 2007 Make your own. Two Part or really on the cheap side use baking soda (ALK), prestone heat (CA), Epson salt (MgSO4), and Magflake (MgCl2). David
dschflier September 10, 2007 September 10, 2007 I have a grey seas kalk stirrer that I currently use and am very happy with. I also have a second one that I am not using and would be willing to sell. If you are interested Let me know. I have the larger model the one I am selling is the smaller model Iwill have to ask dan how many gallons the smaller one is rated to.

Rascal September 10, 2007 September 10, 2007 I need something as inexpensive as possible btw I have a light-medium calcium demand in my tank Top off with Kalk and keep up with your water changes. You can set up a Kalk dripper for about $5 with a water jug and some airline tubing, or you can add some in the morning, some when you get home from work, a little more after dinner, and a litter more before bed. Kalk reactors take all of the work out of it, but you can get similar results by doing the mixing yourself. Ultimately I think Ca (Alk) reactors are the way to go, but even for a DIY model you are looking at a $300 investment (including tank, regulator, needle valve), and to me that doesn't qualify as inexpensive.

I have the smaller GreySeas model. bob
modelrr September 10, 2007 Author September 10, 2007 (edited) I'm probably going to have sps for at most two years...when I go to college I'll either take the entire tank down or just sell the sps & maybe the lps. I want to have everything as simplified as possible for my parents anyway, I'm liking the idea of a kalk stirrer or making my own two-part supplement - the calcium reactor IMO sounds like something that would better in a more long-term plan thanks for the advice everyone Edited September 10, 2007 by modelrr
