So How Does Frag Trades Work?

Stupid question, sorry. My first time going to WAMAS meet (or any reef meet for that matter). When they say frag trades, do they also sell them at stupendously cheap prices? I mean, if I bring frags from my tank, how does that work? Do I bring my whole get up (10G tank, lighting, etc)? Who gets to trade frags? Who gets to bring frags?

 

I am more interested on the five topics that will be talked about, especially the status of oceans, etc. But the trade portion is the part of the meet that I had a question for.

 

Any experienced traders and WAMAS meets who want to enlighten a meet newb like me?

If you decide to become a wamas member you will have access to the full site.

There is a section for selling frags and one for trading.

You would be able to post your interest in frags or buying frags/selling frags

and then communicate with others what you want to buy or trade.

meet at the meeting and do your trade.

Or arrange meeting at a residence or local fish store.

There are typically two types:

 

1) Casual Traders/Sellers - These people typically bag up their frags (or put them in tupperware) and bring them to the meeting. Most sales/rades are pre-arranged (because you hate to have a frag that you need to bring home and they are hard to get a good sense of in the bag).

 

2) Semi-Professional Traders/Sellers - These people typically bring a small tank setup & lights, etc. They typically have a larger volume of frags, are more interested in selling than trading (as tehir tanks are typically full up). They will have corals displayed for you to see before you buy.

Also there will be a ton of frags in the raffle at the meeting (pick your ticket, you pick your frag), and usually we have a freebie table set up where people deposit easy to grow softies and such for beginners.
