I have one (or more) of those frags on the really solid, LONG reef plugs (I think they might come from ORA). I'd like to mount one of them on a fairly solid piece of rock that doesn't have any real big holes in it. How do you go about it without removing the rock from the tank and taking a core drill to it? Just cut it off and glue it? Is there a good hand tool for boring a hole? Other suggestions?

Thanks,

bob

I'm not familar with teh ora plugs, but I typically just clip em off :)

you could cut the frag plug down to fit a hole that you do have in the rock or, cut the frag plug down and use epoxy to afix it to the rock...

I'll try to get a picture. But my internet connection has been horrible lately.

This kind of frag plug. They are about 2.5 inches long, with ribs, small on top:

I always clip away as much of the frag plug as I can and use epoxy to mount the frag onto the LR. IMHO, the result looks much more natural than having round plugs and pegs all over the tank. D&D epoxy comes in purple and looks almost like coraline in the tank. It costs more than some other brands of epoxy but seems to stick better.

Bob,

I've dealt with those ones before, and they are the most difficult to get off (I don't like those plugs at all), but it's still possible to clip them off.

Agree with all.

I just use a gardening pruner.

Thanks, all! It just seemed like they went to all that trouble to make a really strong reef plug, I ought to plug it into something. But it would be one heck of a hole I'd have to drill. I'll probably just use my dremel to hack it off and epoxy it to the rock. Until I get some bolt cutters, at least.
