jamal April 23, 2007 April 23, 2007 i am trying to replace my flexible tubing with pvc but i dont know how. i have a 6 ft tank and my sump is sitting next to it. the overflows are on each side of the tank so i need to bring the pipes through the stand (hole saw) and into the sump which for the farther tubing will be about 8 ft. so what parts do i need for this and what is the best way to accomplish this without losing too much flow
Jager April 23, 2007 April 23, 2007 (edited) well without pictures id say you should use whatever diameter tubing you have now and get that same size for the overflows. drill into the stand and connect them to a double that size pipe so you have one line to the sump. that is just two tees, a section of pipe in 2 sizes and glue/primer for the main part. any turns you want to make use 45 degree elbows and use 2 for a 90. it makes a wider curve and slows the flow less. if you cant then use a 90 but try to restrict it as little as possible. if you plan to upgrade to a bigger tank or return pump you may want to give us the size tubng you have now so we can get flow rates for you. if you can get us a photo or a sketch of what your setup looks like I can help alot more with exactly what you may need. jamal April 23, 2007 Author April 23, 2007 i can take a picture of the tank later today so you guys can see a little of what i mean. the return is 3/4" and the drains are 1". i will not be upgrading the return pump but im not sure that the size tubes i have are large enough because the water comes out of them with great force. what else can i tell you to give more info

How do you have it plumbed now - apparently it is working, or you would have water all over the house. bob
fab April 27, 2007 April 27, 2007 Just curious ... Why do you want to replace flexible tubing with rigid??? fab
jamal April 27, 2007 Author April 27, 2007 well besides the nuisance algae it will hinder it is sliding off of my sump and causing huge messes.
fab April 27, 2007 April 27, 2007 Is the nuisance algae growing inside the tubing? It will grow the same in the rigid tubing, won't it? Also, by 'sliding off' do you mean it becomes disconnected? Do you have it secured with hose clamps? fab
jamal April 27, 2007 Author April 27, 2007 it is draped over my sump right now and it keeps sliding off. i figured it would cut down on the algae growth with less light.
