Ok, this is the beginning of several noob questions so please forgive me...

What do you guys use to view and take pics of your tank from the top down? At the LFS I've seen a acrylic trough like thingy floating in the tank. Is that something you can buy or have to make?

Know anyone selling or making them?

Once I get this answered, I can figure out a decent way to take pics to ask my other noob questions..

A couple of pieces of acrylic work together (a round one, and a flat one).

Chip made one for me... and I can take some pics of it... works great.

This sounds like it's along the lines of what I'm looking for. Something simple/cheap. I just want something to assist with being able to view things from above the tank when cleaning it and take a few simple pics for documenting growth. If I want true gallery quality photos, I'd go with an underwater setup or something fancy.

My tank is in the wall and only accessible from behind. Since the back is black acrylic, my options for seeing what I'm cleaning are limited...

A pic of how your or any similar gadget is set up would be great!

To make mine and Dave's, I used 4" or 4.5" tube that was about 3"-4" tall and glued a flat piece of acrylic to it.

If I had had it, I would have used black tube so it blocked the light around it.

I guess you could also use "grey" tube like say SCH80 and weld it to the flat piece.

IF YOU GET MY DRIFT?

You can also use those clear, short, wide "coctail" cups.

4" schedule 80 is around $50 a foot  I think schedule 40 would be fine even though it's not as cool as grey  .

I DO GET YOUR DRIFT  I have 50# of sheet scrap and 600' of welding rod and I need to make some clear parts boxes for pvc fittings. I easily have well over 1000 fittings on hand at any given time and the ziploc bags are getting old. Maybe I will do some of those round ones to get the feel for the tube as well.....hmmmm door prizes for the social?.....

Black Krylon works wonders and is very cheap!
