bk_market March 24, 2007 Share March 24, 2007 45gal tank. 60lbs or rock and 2inches SB. How much flow do i need for my reef tank? will house alot of soft and sps, zoas and such. what is the turnover rate for this? I bought 2x used Rio900but not sure how much gph they putting out (tried google this but no luck) What else should i add? Thanx
WDLV March 24, 2007 Share March 24, 2007 I would go upward of 20 times the tank volume per hour. With that much rock you will have more of a tendancy toward detritus buildup. So, the higher the better IMO
davjbeas March 24, 2007 Share March 24, 2007 There is no rio 900. do you mean maxi jet 900. if its a rio, you can find the flow output here. http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_powerh...rio.asp?CartId= Are you using a sump with a return pump or just the 2 powerheads? If a sump, what return pump are you using? If no sump i think you need more flow, where are your powerheads placed? sides or back of tank? David B. bk_market March 24, 2007 Author Share March 24, 2007 lol sorry i just double check it rio90 => 85gph so 2x is 170gph not enough :( assuming im taking out the 2 rio. my tank is 45gal so 20x turnover is 900gph. Now should I purchase 1x Koralia 3 that give 850gph and place it on one side of the tank or should i get 3x maxi jet which will give ~900gph but placing them different place on both sides? I will probably use the 2x rio for individual coral need
davjbeas March 24, 2007 Share March 24, 2007 I would go with the maxijets. They are cheap and reliable, also if you add a wavemaker later they tend to not jam on startup. The koralia i have no experience with. I guess you don't have a sump. David
miller March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 The koralia are nice pumps. Thye give a nice broad stream and they are cheap. I have had 2 of the #4 for a few months and i like them
jamesbuf March 25, 2007 Share March 25, 2007 For your size tank, I would go with the maxijets. They are very reliable. I would use these on the maxijet 1200s: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/product/pr....itemKey=216030 The FLOs do lower the output of the maxijets, but if you had 3 of them in the tank you'd get the results I believe you are looking for.
