Wiring new MH Ballast

Recommended Posts

Guest navajo

Hello all!

I am in the process of building a new canopy for a lighting upgrade on my Oceanic 210 and have a quick question.

I am installing 3 250 W MH moguls and using 3 ARO pulse start electronic ballasts. Is there a problem in using the regular Romex house wiring to install these? I know some of the ballasts fire a LOT of voltage during bulb start up but have lost the old link I used to have about how much they send. The wiring I have here that I have been using for the basement rewiring is rated for 600 V.

Thank you for your time.

That is fine. Basically it is solid core copper wire the same as you would normally use, you are just using a heavier gauge (12-16) vs. what you normally would (18-22). You would only have an issue if you were going to be using thinner wire than the 18-22. Might be a little bulky but, hey if it's there then use it!

Thanks Dan! Now I can get moving!

I rewired my hood with 16/2 because that is all I had......works great.....little bulky and overkill but works great.
