stevil February 23, 2007 February 23, 2007 I changed the filters on my 6 stage RO/DI unit yesterday - and now it is leaking. It is actually just the very last stage, the "taste filter" that is leaking. Somehow the filter cracked just a little tiny bit and now I can't get a tight seal on the screw-in nozzle thing. I used GOOP silicone to seal it up, but that didn't work like I thought - now there is just a pinhole leak that is squirting water out. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
flowerseller February 23, 2007 February 23, 2007 If it's the "taste" filter directly after your DI unit, most of us do not use that one anyway as it tends to raise the TDS. Leave it unhooked or bypass it. BTW, the fish can't taste the difference anyway.
stevil February 23, 2007 Author February 23, 2007 Really? I did not know that it caused an increase in TDS... That is an easy fix then! Thanks Chip.
flowerseller February 23, 2007 February 23, 2007 You're welcome. Just so there's no confussion, if it's the small filter on the top of this RO/DI unit, you don't need it and may be better off with out it. I have this unit and love it. The clear sideways canister is a refilable DI unit and I collect my water right after it. The taste filter is now on my fridge ice machine
Eve February 23, 2007 February 23, 2007 Is the "taste" filter the same as what some people call the "softner" after the DI?
YBeNormal February 23, 2007 February 23, 2007 Is the "taste" filter the same as what some people call the "softner" after the DI? Probably. There is no need for any filters after the DI.
stevil February 23, 2007 Author February 23, 2007 Chip - yes, my unit is similar, but not identical. I have 3 vertical filters (foam, carbon, something else), then the RO membrane, then it passes into a "Resin" filter (which I'm assuming is the DI, it isn't refillable like yours) and then after that into the "taste" filter. As a stop-gap I put the old "taste" filter back on, and will try and get to Home Depot for some replacement tubes and connectors to permanently remove it from my system.
