i have thick annoying bubbles in my sump. it looks like shampoo. i didnt wash it with soap and i put the drains in filter socks but that doesnt break it up enough and its messing up my skimmer. what do i do

It sounds like your sump is acting as a big skimmer...i.e. you have excess protiens in the water...

That is what is causing your skimmer to freak out (not the bubbles themselves... something is being added to the tank water to cause this).

Gotta skim more and figure out what you are adding (even hand lotion inadvertanly) that is causing the problem.

If you have used the two-part putty recently that can cause that problem.

Slap on an extra skimmer and work it out for a few days. Like Dave says, hand lotion, epoxy, and few other thing'll work up a mad bubble stream for a while.

have you used glue lately in your tank?

have you introduced exit worm chemical?

stop dosing Kalk is you are doing so until sump is normal.

Make a list of what you have been putting into your tank and perhaps there is the answer to your bubbles

My sump in my new set-up also has some bubbles, which looks (though I could be wrong) like it's coming from there being some air in the drain pipe from the overflow chamber, which air is then pounded into bubbles by the force of the drain emptying into the sump. It's problematic because all those bubbles, as was said previously, probably acts as a skimmer, and the bubbles ride right across the next chamber, keeping the bad stuff from getting into the skimmer. It seems the amount of water that actually goes through the skimmer is way less than ought to be or is desirable, and the amount of mixing in my second chamber is way less than is desirable.

no additives as of late only time my hands are even in the tank is to feed the sun coral and chilli coral and to replace algae. hands are always being washed. i have the bubbles in one overflow chamber and i guess they just flow down to the sump. i just set it up yesterday but i tested it the day before and there were no bubbles so i dont know. ill keep you posted
