I have about a kajillion brown and olive polyps all over my rocks. They are getting so out of control that they are taking over some of my corals. What is a safe and effective way to get rid of them without pulling out the rocks and without screwing up the water quality??

Gotta pic? I need a pic... How can I tell ya without a pic??

I've been using kalk paste on the smaller rocks I can pull out and a heavy kalk liquid in a syringe on the bigger rocks. I just don't want to screw up my water quality.

Are they actually polyps or are they hydroids? You could try shooting boiling water into/on them.

Wouldn't that boil my fish? :why:

Seriously, I can take care of the polyps on the rocks that I can remove from the tank......my concern is the larger rocks that can't be removed.

My suggestions: kalk paste in a syringe -- just do a few at a time and monitor params. I use the syringe that comes with the salifert ca&alk test kits, and try to use just a small amount right in the center of the polyp. This seems to work better than trying to coat the whole thing.

You have a 180, right? Five small squirts of kalk a day shouldn't have much of an impact, at least nothing that couldn't be offset in other ways.
