Guest beatle January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 My 90 had too much rock in it, so I decided to "prune" some of it tonight and rearrange. It looks better now - more how I'd prefer. The fish are all looking fine and back to their usual antics after the shake-up, but I have no idea where my midas blenny is. I've moved some of the rock around since, but I don't really want to turn the tank upside down again. He's a good size, close to 4 inches, so I don't really see how he could be hiding THIS well. I've gone over the tank with a flashlight, fed mysis (everyone comes out for mysis), and stared at the tank off and on for about an hour and a half. If you think he is dead, do I need to remove all the rock to find him or will my cleanup crew (2 brittle stars, serpent star, large sally lightfoot, assorted hermits and snails) take care of the dirty work? Also, if I don't find him in the next few days, PM me if you have a source on a healthy, playful midas. :(
jason the filter freak January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 In a tank that good as long as you're running the proper filtration, you'll see a small spike in water quality, shouldnt be harmful, clean up crew will take care of the rest
unninair January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 Did he carpet surf... They are notorious for jumping out if threatened.
Guest beatle January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 Didn't lose him to carpet surfing (like I did my firefish earlier this week). I checked the back of the tank for him. I did check the rock I pulled out and he's not there either. I still don't see him. I'll cross my fingers that he ate some bad pellets earlier today and is just sleeping it off.
quazi January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 I have lost big fish in my 55 and had no lasting effects on my tank. There are a lot of worms in your tank, along with the other scavengers and they will make short work of that small fish. I have had some large fish go MIA and later confirmed KIA by their lack of appearance. I never have know exactly what happened to them. I am assuming they did not fly out of the tank. There are lot of places to goo and die in a reef tank. It (mine?) is amazingly resilient.
Guest beatle January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 Carla to the rescue! She told me to recheck the rock. I checked it last night somewhat, but I didn't actually pull it all out of the tub where it was, so he was able to continue hiding. I had four pieces and he was under the fourth piece! I am reacclimating him now.
fab January 27, 2007 January 27, 2007 You do realize that you always find 'em in the last place you look, never sooner! fab

I had a bicolor blenny disappear and found him later in the tub of live rock that I had just pulled from the tank. Glad to hear that your Midas "reappeared" they are beautiful fish.
