elm66 January 25, 2007 January 25, 2007 I have recently upgraded my lights to 3x250W MH and 4 T5. The MH run for 6 hours a day and the T5 for about 11Hours. With the previous lights, I was able to maintain a pH of 8.2 without a problem. I had also put some macro algae in the sump with lighting at night to reduce the pH changes overnight. With my new lights, the pH is now reaching 8.36 at the end of the light cycle and down to 8.30 in the morning. I am assuming that some algae is depleting the tank from CO2 but do not see any algae outbreak except for the fact that I need to clean up the glass more often. I am planning on removing the macro algae from the sump to reduce the amount of CO2 plant intake. What else can I do to reduce the pH? Use a CO2 tank (which I would like to avoid for the time being). Thanks Eric
dhoch January 25, 2007 January 25, 2007 Recalibrate your ph probe? Actually this is a good thing to do... I don't know that your ph is to high though... Dave
Coral Hind January 25, 2007 January 25, 2007 That is not really a reading that requires an "!". I would not remove anything from the sump since that is on a reverse light cycle. It is actually helping to prevent a larger PH swing. What is you dKH reading?
Sugar Magnolia January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 Just linked this in anther thread - acceptable pH levels found in this chart by Randy H-F. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php

elm66 January 26, 2007 Author January 26, 2007 your ph levels are fine, mine range from 8.25 and peak at 8.37 Thanks all, I am still monitoring the pH and will recalibrate tonight my probes as I noticed another up to 8.39 last night before the shutdown of the lighting system. Will keep on posting if it is getting out of control. Thanks for your help Eric
