madmax7774 December 10, 2006 December 10, 2006 I was at the LFS today, and I saw they were showcasing a new(for them) product called the B-ionic doser. it's basically an automated b-ionic drop system with air pumps and light timers to drive it. As an alternative to the expense of a calcium reactor which is around $600-900, this thing is less than $300 all parts to get into. They claim it to be great. Anyone here run one? what are your thoughts on them? John

keeperofthefish December 10, 2006 December 10, 2006 For that cost, you're better off going with a good peristaltic pump. The LitreMeter Pro III is the best thing out there from what I understand...

madmax7774 December 11, 2006 Author December 11, 2006 (edited) John, [sNIP] I want to use it for my 100 gallon system at home, as I am starting to load up on SPS corals, and could benefit from some sort of automated Calcium system. John Edited December 11, 2006 by BeltwayBandit
BeltwayBandit December 11, 2006 December 11, 2006 (edited) Restored from deleted post. BB it works fine, it does what it is supposed to do, but new, it is overpriced in comparison to a dosing pump. I would consider a used one because of the price, but its not worth the retail price in my eyes. We used it at our shop until we realized that it was not cost effective in our 300 gal coral system that was eating up calcium and alk. B-ionic is a tried and tested favorite of many succesful reefkeepers, and needs to be dosed daily to get the best results. john John & Max. Please feel free to continue your conversation regarding sales of equipment via PM. Max, On a system your size you should really look at how much B-Ionic you would need to dose and determine if it is a cost effective way to deliver calcium and alkalinity to your system. Especially as the tank grows and the demand increases, I would suggest that you add some type of Kalk dosing system instead of the B-Ionic. Just my opinion.
