Guest Chris_X August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 Hey guys! I made a logo for the site, just had some extra time to play with and enjoy doing graphics. If you dont wanna use it, it wont hurt my feelings lol. Just thought I'd throw it out there. It's the same size as the one up now.
HowardofNOVA August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 Nice step up from our current logo Chris! Would like to see something like this then current logo. More bolder. The ONLY problem I see in it, will be doing for example the shirt logo's. A ton of details to send over, but love the concept! Howard
michaelg August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 Looks like a new website logo to me... We could most certainly have more than one for different purposes. I do like the bold colors more. Question- can you make a high res version of this to use for print materials? If so please send it on to reefmon and Nathan. Chris, if you like doing graphics type stuff, we need help with stuff for a MACNA website and printed materials. I will contact one of our other members who is in the graphics arts business to see if we can use some of his photos. Michael
Guest Chris_X August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 Glad u like it! I can do some high res stuff of this and others for print. The pics i used for this were nice and big =) I will do what i can for ya w/ other web graphics and other high res stuff. I recently started doing high res posters so I will try anything. Cant promise anything but will try. Ill try to make a high res version this weekend and send it to u. Chris
Guest Houshan August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 I like it! Nice job Chris. I like the "DC skyline in the aquarium" look.
michaelg August 27, 2004 August 27, 2004 Houshan- I thought it was DC with corals growing in it Chris- the graphics you are using are royalty free aren't they? Please don't get us in the tank because of something like this- Im sure you know already though, but need to make sure. Michael

Please don't get us in the tank because of something like this- Im sure you know already though, but need to make sure.Michael From what I understand any pic on the internet is fair game if not used for financial gain. WAMAS being a non profit organization should be ok with using anything on the net as long is it doesnt have something blocking or asking the pics not be used. I have had hand made graphics used by another site by a guy that frequented our site and after some checking there was no legal recourse that could be taken. Again, this was hand made not just a pic. I have some "royalty free" Wash DC pics if needed but really dont see the problem. This pic did not say it was "Royalty free" but I can rebuild it to look almost identical using the "Royalty Free" pics. It's your site and I will do whatever you feel is best. Let me know =) If needed, I could even go snap a few myself.
AquariaUSA August 28, 2004 August 28, 2004 Awesome logo!!! Last time I checked if the pics were net based (not copyrighted by symbol, trademarked, or blocked with rights permission) and altered substantially (which it now is) there is no issue... Could be wrong, but worse case scenario they usually just ask you to refrain from using it, before litigation ensues. Did the pic have a name to it? Could always just hunt them down and ask permission. But could probably get some of the camera crazy hobbyists out to take pics of the skyline at night for the logo.
michaelg August 28, 2004 August 28, 2004 Just want to be on the cautious side. If you can find the photographer, it never hurts to ask. I don't know the specifics on this stuff to be honest, but have heard of issues in the past.
Guest Chris_X August 28, 2004 August 28, 2004 I found some nice Washington DC pics last night, emailed the photographer and he emailed me back today giving me the ok to use them. Its not that same pic but they are nice DC pics I can use if you want me to try and redo it. He asked if we could just place a DC photo courtesy of his name. If we do use any of them. I discussed this with a radio news web designer that was telling me he uses alot of pics from the web on their site daily. He was saying if the pics were being sold then that would be a situation where the person or company could ask you to cease and desist. I found some other very nice DC pics that are 100% royalty free and could redo the pic to almost exactly what is on the pic now. I dont think this banner is an issue, but again, will poceed as you wish. Just let me know. Also, i think the banner will need a slight tweak of the lil bubbles to close to the right side anyway so maybe its best ill just use the royalty free pics and redo just so everyone can sleep better at night. =)
Guest Chris_X August 28, 2004 August 28, 2004 Ok, if you can add somewhere on the site "Washington DC photo courtesy of Keith Stanley www.kestan.com" this banner is 100% legal. =) I fixed the lil bubbles too. This should let everyone feel more comfortable. =) If you want any changes just let me know.

Maybe something with just the WAMAS, monument, capitol bldg and the clownfish...maybe be a coral or starfish to but not have to have the full background or even just a couple things. Im sure i could do a few ideas to look at.
