inedukated November 17, 2006 November 17, 2006 Ok, I've had it with my cinnamon clown. He's terrorizing my tank, and practically harasses everyone except for the yellow tang (who doesn't take s*!% from anyone). I am going to remove him (and maybe the other one too, if I can get him out of the tiny corner he's forced to live in). Is there any other clownfish I can get that's friendly AND will actually FEED the anemone like their symbiotic relationship should be? true percs? clarki? -Ben
jamesbuf November 17, 2006 November 17, 2006 From personal experience, both white and yellow banded maroon clowns and cinamon clowns are by far the most aggresive. I've had good luck with both clarki and false percs. I have 3 clarki and 3 false percs in my 180 right now. The 3 percs house in my huge riteri anemone, and one clarki is in my green BTA, one is in my LTS, and other is housing in my frogspawn. There are all around 2" so who knows if I'll have trouble later on. If you want really passive clowns, the pink skunks are supposed to be the most timid of all clowns. I've been told that you can't keep any other types of clowns with them because they are so peaceful compared to the regular clowns.
steveoutlaw November 18, 2006 November 18, 2006 I've always had true percs and I've never had any troubles. They always seem to get along with all the other fish.
dandy7200 November 18, 2006 November 18, 2006 I vote pink skunks as well. I ask Jonnybv to check with ORA as to there availability for his next order. We will see, they don't have them as regurally as the others. E-tropicals appearantly has some nice CB skunks so if ORA doesn't have them I might go that route if you are interested, although I'm not in that big of a hurry and would rather wait for ORA at BRK .
jamesbuf November 18, 2006 November 18, 2006 Aquarium One has a bunch of pink skunks in right now. They actually have an XXL one that I almost bought last night. Looked very healthy. Just one though, but plenty of other small ones.
Sugar Magnolia November 18, 2006 November 18, 2006 I had a clarkii that was very aggresive. Chasing fish and attacking me whenever I had to put my hands in the tank. I eventually traded it and it's LTA in.
inedukated November 18, 2006 Author November 18, 2006 OK, sounds like I need to get some pink skunks then... Now here's an ANEMONE question for you guys. I have a BTA that was doing great, getting bigger constantly as I fed it (since the clown didn't feed him). I switched lighting to T5, and gradually increased timing for a week until I was back to normal times. The anemone moved to the back of the tank now. He's getting plenty of light, and I can see him thru a little crevice, but he's facing the back of the tank. Now it may be picky...but I want to see him. I don't want him to face the back of the tank. It's been 2 weeks. Should I go after him? I know I should let him move on his own, but I'm afraid hes going to stay put, out of sight, and he's going to go unfed. Suggestions?
steveoutlaw November 18, 2006 November 18, 2006 Alter your flow and some of your rockwork. They go where they get the light and flow that they want. When mine went to the back of the tank I just put a rock over him to block the light and he came out.
traveller7 November 20, 2006 November 20, 2006 OK, sounds like I need to get some pink skunks then...Apologies for being late to the party.... The skunks as a general rule will defend an anemone extremely vigorously, typically more so then percula and ocellaris pairs. They do not tend to wander as much as some others, but they you can bet they will keep fish away from their territory. In my humble opinion, most mixed tanks are better off with percula or ocellaris. At the end of the day, remember clowns are damsels, don't be surprised if they generate some aggro.
