Guest BGAndrea October 28, 2006 October 28, 2006 Hello, I am currently trying to design my first big saltwater set-up. As a hi-tech kind of guy I am fascinated with the new technologies and automation of aquariums. However, I do understand that sometimes it is best to let nature take care of certain things. Does anyone here use a denitrifier? If so, which one? My tank is going to be 90 gallons with a 30 gallon sump. Thank you!!! Brandon
davjbeas October 28, 2006 October 28, 2006 I don't think buying a denitrifier would be a good idea. If you are keeping sensitive corals that require low levels of nitrates(fish only aquariums can have higher nitrates with no problem) ways to keeps nitrates low------- 1) water changes 2) deep sand bed 3) refugium with macro algae One very improtant factor I want to mention is use only reverse osmosis and deionized water for you salt mix and also for evaporation top off. *never use straight tap water* David B.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to use R/O water from now on. Im trying to figure out how to fill my tank up with R/O water as my unit only makes like 5 gallons an hour...but I guess its worth the wait.
rrubberbandman October 28, 2006 October 28, 2006 Brandon, do you have a walmart near you? i use their drinking water sold in gallons......i have metered it with my hannah tds and it has on avg. 001-002 which is spankin awesome!.....i use this until i decide on getting a ro-di unit....but as you see i am only dealing with a 20 gallon tank also. adding top off water is my biggest chore especially now that the heat pump is on. Bryan Thank you. This is off topic but, how do you keep your protein skimmer from clouding your tank with bubbles? I am having a problem with that in my 20 gallon.

I am having a problem with that in my 20 gallon. i have the red sea prizm(which people here dont really like...but i cant see me putting a cadillac skimmer on a chevette tank)...it has a flow control valve which i have turned so that the bubbles dont over whelm the baffles ....resulting in a concentrated foam...which i feel is best....the longer the bubble come intact with the water the more dissolved organics it will remove Bryan Edited October 28, 2006 by rrubberbandman
