Hi guys,

After being a WAMAS member for almost five-plus years, I finally started my first salt water tank. I need to thank @telegraham for all his posts/message replies on instagram and @gastone for taking time to reply to my questions. Here is the set up.

17.1 g Landen 60P 23.6x11.8x14.2 (bought used)

Imagitarium 30g stand (bought used from Second Chance, Baltimore)

200W heater

Jebao ELW-5 3000L/hr wave maker

Generic HOB filter with sponge and some ceramic rings - might upgrade to a canister or hygger HOB based on bioload.

~20lb of cured live rock from an established tank

Nicrew 150W light (bought used)

I bought the Nicrew controller to tune the white and blue LEDs in 5% increments.

CaribSea Natural Reef 16 lb sand.

Here are a couple of pics of the tank.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the following.

1. After 2 weeks, I will start adding astrea snails. Also looking for some frags. Please lmk if you have any.

2. Is my lighting schedule okay? I would ideally get in line for the WAMAS PAR meter. I want to know that I don't have it too high to fry up the tank.

I ramp it between

0 and 20% for the whites and blues.

3. Any good clean-up crew suggestions?

Thanks.

Nice tank!  I really like those dimensions.  I've never used a hob on a reef tank so I can't speak to that.  I've got an IOAIO hob skimmer that I couldn't get dialed in.  I offered it for free for a classroom, but no takers.  You are welcome to give it a shot.  I've got it's little brother on my 30 and I rave about it.

As far as lighting, I crank up my blues.  Proportionally I'm like 3:1 or 4:1 (maybe higher even) blue:white on most of my tanks.  I do run some heavier white spectrum for clams, mangroves, and display algaes, but at heart I'm an lps guy and blues all the way.

Great start!

@achansek Congrats on getting it going! Getting the PAR meter is a good call, and you might be able to raise the Nicrew up a bit. As for the Nicrew spectrum, set the blue to your PAR needs then add the whites until the tank looks good. Then check PAR again. You may need to drop both channels down.
