lol. raf, what's with the caps lock man? :)

yeah, hm. i think after the bends and stuff it'll be fine, i just wanted to get some feedback.

I have one on my 90 and with a split off to a fuge and the return with a SCWD on it, I have to cut back on the drain to slow it down a bit for the Mag12 setup to return an equal amount.

ok thanks... i'm planning on not having a scwd, but i'm going to tee off the drain to the fuge.

is your tee off of the return?

I had a mag 12 on my AGA with a Megaflow corner overflow. The flow was too much in the context that the overflow couldn't keep up and made a very annoying slurping and gurgling sound. I went back to a mag 7, and have increased the number of powerheads in my tank.

Charlie,

You might want to consider a SCWD. It's a cheap way to get some random current in the tank and it will slow down the mag12 enough so the over flows can keep up with it. I have a mag12 on my 210g going through a SCWD and it keeps up just about perfect with my overflows.

I'll just comment on internal pumps and having 2 mags fail on me. One was on return, one was on a skimmer. Both failed after about 1.5 yrs service or less. They are a fair pump for the money, but most only last about a year before they start to see problems of not starting after a power out period. Even people who clean ever 6 months, have had problems. I know of at least 10 members who have had them not restart. I went external on new system.

Very rarely do you ever hear of a external pump not restarting. I have used gen-x for for 5 years and never failed and I never clean it. They are a bit loud. Some others like sequence, panworld or blueline also good.

If you can drill your sump, I would go external. Just my .02 & you can ask dhoch about his mag failing while he was at macna-houston this year. I would go external, you'll sleep better when your out of town for a weekend.

craig-

i definitely am aware of that... i don't know if i can drill the sump though, it's a standard 30L... id have to see if it was tempered. i was looking into an acrylic sump, but i'd rather not wait that long to have it made... unless there are places that can turn those around really quickly. thank you for the suggestion though. my mag 7 feels like it's on it's last legs after about 9 months.

<-- this idiot is putting a mag 24 on his 55 gallon, though with lots of ball valves and plumming I expect to be able to modifiy and direct my flow as the need arises
