Guest Adso October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 Hi folks! Anyone know of any local glass shops that can cut and drill glass to custom specifications and/or possibly assemble? Here is some info on one place I found. Reston Glass 133 Spring Street Herndon, Virginia 20170 (703) 860-2089 http://www.restonglass.com/ For 1 16x16in 1/4" thick glass panels the price was quoted: $16/per For 1 16x16in 1/4" thick starphire glass panels the price was quoted: $42/per For 1 16x16in 1/2" thick glass panels the price was quoted: $42/per Price quoted for custom holes drilled in tank: $8/per hole The guy I talked to was very cool and helpful. They will cut anything to any size you want, and drill holes, but they don't do assembly. So, Anyone else know any other places? Not sure how competitive this is. All advice welcome. - Mike

It would be a bummer to chip or crack one them
rioreef October 17, 2006 Share October 17, 2006 If getting baffles made, remember this. Get the bottom corners of the baffle trimmed at a 45 degree angle, about 1/4 inch back. Then, when the baffle is place into a tank, the bottom line of silicone of the tank will not interfere with the baffle sitting on the bottom. inedukated October 18, 2006 Share October 18, 2006 to ask a stupid question.... what is starfire and what is the difference?
traveller7 October 18, 2006 Share October 18, 2006 what is starfire and what is the difference?A brand name for low iron glass. There are other brands, aka Diamante, etc. Low iron glass leaves much of that "green" hue out and is desired when construction requires thicker glass. Small systems are more noticeably clear as well, but the difference in clarity is not as striking as comparing 19mm low iron to traditional float/plate/temper glass. When you see a 180 low iron next to a 180 standard glass, it is jaw dropping.

Scott_LM October 22, 2006 Share October 22, 2006 I don't know any stores that will drill it, but it is easy to do yourself. I have 1 & 1.5" bh bits. BRK sells them for 10-15 dollars. Scott

He's the owner of BRK and the hours and link to there website is listed at the bottom of his posts.
xCGx October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 If you are having class cut for baffles make sure that they polish the sides that will be on top, otherwise those edges are like razor blades. I had mine cut at a place in Woodbridge if you are still looking.
