Does anyone know what a citrus tang is? From everything I can gather, they are yellow tangs from Guam. Are they orange? What’s the difference between them and regular yellow tangs? Also, I see them listed as Zebrasoma sp., not zebrasoma flavescens.

I'm in the recovery stages of a terrible oodinium or brooklynella infestation/partial wipe-out, leavin just 4 fish left, one of which is a hippo tang who showed first, and worst, but unbelievably is one of the survivors. He just started coming out and not laying down 24/7 anymore, and I've noticed many times, he goes over to where my bicolor angelfish is, turns sideways in the water, and the angelfish starts picking at him! He'll stay there and keep getting cleaned till something hurts him then he'll dart away but come right back. It's not all the time, but I see it many times a day. I think that's awesome! I know butterfly fish will be cleaners to huge fish and turtles in the wild, and I think I've even seen some types of large angels doing it too, but never heard of it happen like this!

So I've had this yellow tang for a couple of years now, and this morning my wife tells me he's turning white - especially his face. The only thing that's changed in the tank recently is the clownfish have spawned for the first time (eggs laid 3 Feb), and so have gotten very territorial around where the eggs are. I know they've picked on him a bit in that part of the tank. Other than that, I have no idea why his color would change - there's not sign of malnourishment, for example. Any experience/ideas? Thanks.

About 8 months ago I was at a LFS picking up some live food for my reef tank, I did my usual window shopping and noticed a near death, torn up and malnourished hippo tang in one of the tanks, I asked one of the guys what had happened to it and he told me someone had brought it in that morning, apparently it had been living in a 10-20 gal aquarium with another tang and a couple of other fish for the last couple of years. I always check on the fish every time I visit the store and see it chilling in the tank with a big NFS sign on the glass, I spoke with some of the employees recently about if they would let it go to a new home as it was still living in a tiny tank, and finally today was the day, they agreed to let me take it home, I gave them $20 for it and I'm pretty sure he's as good as he's going to get, he only has 1 eye he has no Dorsal fin left and his tail fin has a chunk taken out of it and he's full of scars, but I think he's the coolest fish ever. I know even a 90Gal isn't really big enough for a Hippo Tang but considering he has spent his whole life in less than 20gal I think he's going to be pretty happy in my tank, I do have the 6' 120 gal sitting in the garage that may or may not ever get set up, I know every time I get a new fish it becomes my favorite fish, but I have a feeling this guy, may keep the title longer than most. Thanks Craig

Hi everyone, I have a sick Kole Tang and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me. This is the first time I have had any of my fish get sick in my 2 years in the hobby so other than put him in quarantine (I have done this) I don't know what to do. I have attached a photo so that you can see what he looks like right now and maybe identify the problem. I apologize for the quality of the photo but it was very hard to get a crisp image because of how he was swimming. Thanks, pale-rider12

So, at what point would you classify a person as a member of the elitist organization known as "the tang police"? Do you consider yourself a member of the tang police? Now be honest, what are your standards or opinions for the keeping of tangs in aquariums?
