  1. A DSB was suposed to be a cheap alternative, i think I'll have to draw water from my sum, and then loop back into my sump. Live rock is expensive as H-E-double hocky sticks, thowign out the bio balls, is not an option for me. At least not yet, I will however when i have the money for alot of extra LR. My fuge area is gowing smaller with every suggestion that people make, but I have some ideas... speaking of which where is a good place to get the substrate for a refigium?

  2. OK LET ME CLARIFY :bounce: .... I have a complete and utter lack of space, dorm sized room I have olny the space under my 55 gallon wich is about 44 inches, and already 21 inches of that is taken up by a sump.

Here's a pic the member who formerly owed this tank took, note, in my case it sits about 4 inches off the wall.

  3. Well aren't all power heads AC? What can bout make wave meakes witht athat,s not a Sea swril or other similar piece of hard ware?

DOH! We have a few thousand dollars of RC Planes in the house.... and it just occurs to me that propellers are directional, where as what comes in the power heads aren't! darn I feel dumb...

  4. OK, whe I get the money I scrap the bio alls and pur inplcae the LR, should I treat it like bio balls and have water trickling over it....? Ohter wise whats the best way to raise the waterlevel in the sump?

Next it looks like I'll just build a seerate RSDB and refugium.... Nooo idea how i'll do this with the amout of space I have, but I'll manage.

    Any other recomendations?

Well and build that 5 foot down draft skimmer I've been looking at.

  5. Does any one thing that two modded MJ1200's would be too much, too little or just right for a 55 if faced toward each other and put on a wave timer, and I saw the thing about shutting down to go along with the lights, how nessecery is it to give your tank a break from current.

LASTLY DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD PICS OF HOW THEY MADE THEIR PROPELLERS?

Oh well this answered most of my questons so here's a good refference for the rest of us on how to make these beautiful pieces of work!

  6. Ok I'm glad I'm getting feed back... I'll put a smaller pump and a sponge prefilter over the intake for the pump to help slow down water flow... As for the bio balls, I still need those to cut my amonia and nitrites right? I mean I spend more than $160 on the bio ball sump, and it's also the olny place I can add a protien skimmer to the system. I think having the baffels will also help slow down the water flow.

    Any more suggestions?

  7. The purpose of the over flow box is to prevent the sump from overflowing... The baffels will be drilled to allow water to flow though but keep the contents of the refigium area in place... I have another sump already that when I get the money I will put a bigger more expensive skimmer in. If the power cuts the water will drain into my other sump. And after others comments I will make the baffels come 2 inches short of the top of the tank/sump

  8. Thanks so much for replying! The olny reason i had the baffles (the would be drilled like swiss cheese) drawn in there was to keep the refigium contents in place... I plan to have fairly fast water flow moving though the bed. I already have a sump with bio balls that will run my tank just fine. I need to get rid of my nitrates, while conserving space and budgets. Any more ideas.... comments?

  9. Alright for giggles, when i get some down time at work I'll start counting previous to this point on the thread.

This time i wasted doing this total almost cost me my job but...:

Note: I tried to rule out duplicate posts, and account for people editing, but here's what I got

ATTENTION AT THIS POINT WE WAMAS MEMEBERS ARE MANAGING APPROX 28,648.18 GALLONS OF WATER! Congrats

So whadda I get for doing this total? :drink:

  10. Ok I need some judgement and constructive critism and ideas and comments related to my design not art work!

I need to reduce nitrates, I have no money for a Nitraban reactor, and have no place for a hang on refigum, and I'm not about to pour vodka or sugar in my tank. So here my idea, ask me any questions and I'll try to describe my convolution as best as possible. The olny place I have room is under my tank, and I have very little at that, it's a 55 gallon.

    Let me know

  11. A hang on overflow is a good be, I use one and it's pretty well hidden with some well place live rock stacks... I'd reccomend getting a dual over flow right off the bat, incase you want to add extra things such as a seperat sump or RDSB

  12. How far down 70 are you... I'm in frederick, and might be willing to meet part way.

    Dave

About half way would be 20 minutes, but I may or may not be comming up that way to see an nice firery redhead, I'd be able to tell you by tomarrow. Thatnks for ht e offer, what could i give you?

  13. I just switched out my bed from crushed coral / shell, to a sand olny bed, but in the proscess of course I didn't save a cup or two of sand... I asked for sand before, and I was suposed to get it during the 125 tank move, unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the move... :( Does any one have a cup or two of sand I could use to seed my new sand bed??

It doesn't need to contain pods or coraline alge, thought that would be very nice, I just need bacteria colonies. I'll post this in forsale/trade section as well see where I can get a reaction.

Howard County Maryland Area please. I could pay if nessecary in  or reef supplement.

  14. twice a day and olny what they can eat in five minutes is good measure for most fish, but tang will gaze alog, so having a salad of sea veggies on hand the majority of the time is a good idea for them
