  1. Come by and take a look at the Peacock mantis I have in my 30G cube and you'll change your mind.
  2. I'm using a tunze osmolator w/ a lifeguard? fludized bed filter which has a 3" layer of Kalk sitting at the bottom. So far its been running w/out any problems.
  3. Ok - I'm not going to be fragging this one then The other technique I've heard about and seen in person is to stress the plate enough that it dies / appears to die. Then leave the skeleton in the tank. A couple of months later, babies start popping out from the skeleton. Terrible that the animal has to die w/ this technique though.
  4. How long ago did you frag it?
  5. Yeah - unfortunatly the two ways I know how to popagate these guys are both fairly destructive. Don't think I'd be able to get myself to do it.
  6. That was my reaction too when I saw it at Scales. I've been in this hobby long enough to know what to do when you come across a one of a kind peice. So I bought it
  7. My latest favorite...
  8. I went by to check out the new arrivals. Left with a SHWEEEEEEEEET gold tear drop maxima. Awesome coloration - most of the clams were already open - good relexes to shadows etc. So many A+ clams to choose from - hard a hard time deciding on just one. Colors and pattens are really really nice. Cannot beleive the size of those squamosas either - just massive! Now I need a look down reef setup.
  9. Checked out the clams. Shouldn't have - couldn't resist. Picked up a nice crocea!
  10. Ashburn / Broadlands area....
  11. Seans got some SWEEEEEEEEEEET SPS for pretty good prices! Nice system he's keeping them in too - polyps fully extended, all healthy.
  12. It probably won't work but what the heck... I'll cut two fresh frags of similar size, dip one in extra saline water and then put them next to each other to grow them out and see what the heck happens.
  13. So a frag dipped in extra saline water won't have the same effect right?
  14. When you get up and running - give me a holler. I've got some frags for you.
  15. Guys - first off, I don't know if this is appropriate in this section, so if it isn't please move it to the section it'd work out best in. I know several reefers also maintain freshwater tanks and thought they may be interested in the following local event. 16. Found this... http://www.magnetsource.com/Consumer%20Pag...ramic_Mags.html Prices seem very reasonable. Would these be safe in the reef or would I have to coat them with something?
  17. I've thought about the magnet method. Thinking about finding a source for cheap standard coated magnets and using those. I like the fact that you can move / angle etc the powerhead when using that method.
  18. Anyone have any tricks / tips to keep powerheads secure? The suction cups don't do a goodjob of keeping them on the side of the tank.
  19. You can take a tupperware container with a lid, create some slits in the side so that water can flow through it. Add rubble and xenia frags and put it in your tank. IME they attach fairly quick - within 24 - 36 hours.
  20. Nice! Love that green efflo!
  21. I've got some Xenia if you're interested. Maybe some zoos.
  22. I'll take 7 or whatever's left. Can pick up Saturday. Let me know - you've got my number.
  23. In my opinion, if the pH, temp or salinity in the originating system are extremly different from your system, aclimation is probably a good idea. No sense in shocking the animal. There's nothing to loose by aclimating. I do it rather quickly - first get the temp back up by floating the bag for 15 mins, then aclimate in a small container over 15 mins before moving it to the main system. But folks go to both extremes - some dumping it right it, while others aclimate over hours.
  24. Hope you took your time to acclimate it. Krish's salinity was at 1.021 from what he was saying.
