  1. Check this out - http://melevsreef.com/id/
  2. From what I have read both will kill "pods". However, it is only the pods that get drawn through the UV unit. It is unlikely that 100% of your pod population will go through the UV unit. A quick correction on the goals above; Clear water - UV will have a clearing affect on greenish tinted water (algae bacteria), Ozone is targeted at the yellow tint in water.
  3. Welcome to the hobby. It looks like you have a good start for a FOWLR tank. I would only suggest that you get a good set of test kits. If I were doing a FOWLR I would add a UV sterilizer.
  4. Steveoutlaw - I read on RC that the UV clarifier is the same unit as the UV sterilizer at a much higher flow rate. The theory being that lower flow over the bulb equals greater kill rate and thus sterilization. RC has some great reading on this topic. No real "must do" like a skimmer. Good debates on Pro's and Con's. It always comes back to your goals; Clear water = Ozone. Control free floating stage "life forms" like algae and parasites = UV.
  5. How many watts vs. gallon ratio were you running?
  6. I am interested in what our membership is doing around using UV on their tanks. This poll and discussion is ment to educate those of us interested in the Pro's and Con's of the use of UV. For the purpose of this poll Reef and FOWLR options will asked. Please add your comments for or against. Thanks for your participation.
  7. I would suggest calling Sean at Fins & Feathers. Check the Vendor section for contact information. He is excellent at this type of thing.
  8. Does it have any white spots on it? Even one or two can indicate something developing. Early detection is very important.

  13. As a hobbiest more times than not I need the help of the fellow WAMAS members or someone who is an expert and professional. Sean Gallagher is by far one of the best I have ever come across. His knowledge of all aspects and respect for the animals and customers is the difference maker for me. Sean, thank you for your time, effort and dedication. You are by far the best in the DC area!
  14. Hi Dave, It was working last night. It is not working for me now either. I will keep checking it.

  16. I am using the Reeflux 250W 10K SE bulbs and like the color. I purchased them form Reef Exotics and had a very good experience. I am interested in the 12K bulbs. If you purchase them let me know how you like the color.
  17. IMO the difference with OM is that you are never starting and stoping anything. Your pump is always on and the OM unit is always on (rotates divertign flow out). A controller can provide many other options as well and I feel that both would make a great system. You can call OM and speak to Paul, he is the owner and great guy. Tell him what you are trying to do and he can walk you through examples that will work for you. I did this and found the conversation to be very very beneficial. He took lots of time with me and walked me through the web site to show me examples. Just another step in the research ladder! Good luck!!
  18. Go to the Oceans Motions web site and check out this CL system. I am running a OM setup and love it. By the way, John at BRK carries the Oceans Motions gear. http://www.oceansmotions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=546
  19. A business trip has me in Richmond on Friday. I am going to stop by Atlantis then. Not that I would not want to go again...........I think Marvin gets the best corals and fish No need to get me on Saturday. I hope you all enjoy your trip.
  20. Thanks Gastone, I just placed an order for 200 1/4" - 1" and will let you all know how they turn out.
  21. I would like an order of these as well. The shipping charge from Pet Solutions is a bit heavy for a single order. Will they do anything on a group order?
  22. Here is a great reference page from RC that may help. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...threadid=102605
