  1. Noticed a couple of heads (?) of aptasia growing out of one of my zoas, took delivery of two peppermint shrimp. Hoping those take care of the problem, can't find the shrimp they're great at hiding.
  2. Nope, actually converted the old main durso 1" drain to a Herbie with a gate valve. Turned the 3/4" return to the emergency drain and routed the return over the lip into the tank with a dual loc-line outlet. Still fine tuning the drain to get the trickle into the emergency drain.
  3. Glad I listened to the Herbie method recommendation, night and day difference sound wise! Still tuning but even the wife was happy with the difference. I went with an Eheim 1262 for the return pump, it honestly feels like overkill. Going to throw a gate valve on it to tune it down some. Attached a pic of the temporary completion, need to figure out the ATO situation and clean up all the cabling. As always thanks for the help everyone.
  4. I make my own but get extra from quantum reefs in Springfield if I need to mix a big batch.
  5. Thanks for the info, ordered up the 1" gate valve for the main drain & cover for it. Have been watching a few videos on properly setting it up, hoping to have the tank wet by next weekend. Still waiting on my sump baffles to arrive then I can get going, ordered the Fijicube refugium sump kit.
  6. Appreciate it, thanks! Can't wait to get this tank wet and everything transferred.
  7. Need some help regarding plumbing and return pumps. Picked up a used 75-gallon reef ready tank today, it has 2 pre-drilled holes in the overflow section, a 1.5” return hole & 1.75” drain hole. Have to pick up new bulkheads as the current seals are bad. Considering going with the Durso style drain but concerned about noise. Also worried about going with the Herbie style as I’d have to run the return line over the edge of the tank. Looking for any plumbing tips or ideas on how best to do this or some decent links. Finding so many different opinions online but curious about some current designs. Also shopping for a return pump, have a 20-gallon long sump and assume I’d need roughly a 1k gph pump. Any recommendations on sizing or brands? Was considering the Sicce Syncra 5.0 but open to ideas.
  8. Thanks for the info Alan, I'll look him up. Will also check the other folks you mentioned.
  9. Good info and thanks! I'll keep my eyes open for the $1 gallon sale so I can drill/prep a second tank before transferring, regardless it needs to happen. I'll keep scouring the FS section for someone selling at least a 120 gallon tank. Appreciate the help! Rob
  10. The tank just turned 2 months old and I made pretty much every rookie mistake, "I don't need a sump, I don't need to drill it, I'll only want a couple corals.. etc." I've got two clowns, a bi-color blenny, cleaner shrimp and some snails, one frogspawn, candy cane and several other small ones. Was considering making the jump to a 90g or 120g so I could get some of the larger fish, i.e. tangs, angels, just haven't found any used setups within my range. I was concerned also about the lights after watching the BRS PAR review of them, would probably have to sell them off to buy one of the larger black box lights. Thanks for letting me ramble, anyone got an overflow box recommendations for the tank in the interim? I can't let that current overflow stay in place, super nervous about that siphon pipe getting nudged and an overflow going down. Was looking at the eshopps medium series but seeing if there's something better or useful.
  11. So I'll preface this with yes I should have drilled this tank from the get go, lessons learned. I've got a 40g breeder/20g long sump with an eshopps HOB overflow box. Have been strongly considering taking the tank down temporarily to drill it for a dedicated overflow as I had a drainage issue during a recent water change. Last thing I need after a recent 2nd floor leak would be another spillage due to the overflow failing. There are tons of options out there for this so was curious about any recommendations to go with. Also toying with the idea of going to a bigger tank if I was going to go through the hassle of breaking down the tank. In your opinion would it be simpler to go with a pre drilled reef ready tank? If so what size would be reasonable to go to? Trying to repurpose using my existing below equipment to reduce upfront cost (ha). 12. Looks like it won't be as drastic of a repair as I assumed, won't need to move the tank. Going to get some painter's plastic to completely cover it and tape the edges to the floor. Beers + Panic + leaks are bad combos.
  13. Thanks for the replies, great ideas. I think Petco still has a sale going on.
  14. Thanks for the reply, I'm sure the stress is making my mind go a 100 different ways. Just worried about losing my little buddies after finally getting the water clear and parameters decent. My corals aren't super fancy but don't want to watch cash go down the drain, literally haha
  15. Sorry for the dramatic title, had a 2nd floor leak tonight that requires drywall repair in our first floor. Unfortunately my tank is in the affected area and need to break down my tank. Anyone got a recommendation on a temp setup while the work is performed? Was considering snagging a long cooler so I could close the lid during dusty/sanding periods. It's a 40g breeder with a 20l sump. Not much room in our small townhouse as we're having to relocate all of our furniture while the work is performed. Don't want to lose my clowns/blenny and corals I just snagged at this weekend's meeting.
