  2. Welcome Andrew!

I will tag our membership coordinator here also @ReefdUp to make sure your membership is all for this this weekend.

As Jack mentioned above, that thread has majority of the information regarding the event this saturday.

Doors are open at 1200 so you are welcome to drop by and chat with members and get a chance to watch some fragging demo.

After the talk, there will be goodies that are raffled off (raffles can be bought at the event).

Once we are completed, frags that are donated by vendors and hobbyist will be given out (for free) at this time.

  4. HOW TO BUY:

    https://puddleaquatics.com/collections/reef-boxx/products/the-reef-boxx

    https://reefbuilders.com/2022/09/27/reefboxx-is-a-new-affordable-battery-backup-for-dc-reef-gear/

The Reef Boxx is a patent pending automatic backup switch that allows users to connect battery backup in many different configurations. Its what will save your fish in a power outage and is a dream come true for the DIY aquarium keeper. you simply plug in your power brick a battery source of your choosing and then the pump that you wish to back up and thats it. When the power goes out the Reef Boxx will automatically switch over to battery power and when the power comes back on it will automatically switch back. You can even charge your phone while the power is out.

The Reef Boxx will work with any 12 to 24 volt DC pump no matter the brand. You BYOB (Bring Your Own Battery) 12 volts 24 volts, sort or long amp hour you choose how long you want your pump to run when the power goes out. SLA, Life PO4, There are so many possibilities. Its all in how you wish to set it up. Don't know much about that? I will be happy to help you understand it all.

You will receive the Reef Boxx, along with everything you need to connect it to your battery setup. I have written a set of detailed instructions to make it as easy as possible and I am here to help with any questions or setup help that you may need. I am here to help you get everything connected.

Currently the Reef Boxx is made to order 100% by hand. There is no assembly line or mass production. I make each and every one and test each one multiple times before I ship it to your door. It normally takes about one week from the time I receive your order to the time I ship it out to you. Shipping is a flat $10 UPS in the US. And as always local pickup is available.

The latest Reef Boxx is very compact measuring approx 3-7/8" x 2-5/8' x 2"

    Includes a 1 Year Warranty.

Another week, another update!  While there is good and progress, this last week has been mostly sad for this project.  I lost one of the two babies a couple days ago.  It had been smaller for a bit and less active in the last few days before, and I couldn't tell you what went wrong or why, but it passed away.  What's worse, earlier in the week I lost their father.  He had been sick for 3-4 weeks with something that manifested as some lighter color/lack of color on his back (like he was sleeping, but during the day) which gradually got larger and made him overall somewhat lethargic (didn't stop the spawning, though).  I tried a H2O2 dip a couple of times, then stepped it up to a Ruby Rally Pro dip, and then finally tried a full on formalin dip over the course of those weeks, and after each time he didn't look better but acted somewhat more active.  In the formalin dip, he acted fine in the dip and after, but he died in the morning of the next day, basically looks unchanged.  Not sure what it was (I thought maybe brook, but that should have responded to all of the medications), and I don't really expect it was just old age, though I don't know how old he was, but it was a sad day and likely puts the next run of eggs at least 3-6 months out, longer if it takes as long for them to start spawning as this pair did.

In any case, there's also good.  The last remaining baby is active, growing, and is showing the slightest hints of the adult coloration on its forehead.  The fins are also starting to gain pigmentation (turning yellow instead of clear), and I think it's a week or two out from full adult coloration.  So 6 weeks (42 days) post hatch, my remaining baby looks like this:

    I'm sorry

  6. We had our first big show yesterday at Philly Plash!
It was fun but also extremely exhausting. I don't know how some of these vendors do it across country and such a HUGE set up.

I really wanted to use the lights that I have for the show (Radion Gen5) but the height of arms are too short that it prevents a good view of the frag tanks. Thanks to a local vendor (RVA) who advised me to look at using the Kessil arms and make holes on the hanging piece. It actually look pretty good!

    Here on our two tanks:

    To the positive!
I was able to meet a lot of online folks at the show. Finally put some faces to people!
Got a chance to talk to other smaller vendors in the area (a lot of the bigger ones are at MACNA). Kevin from Exotic Reef Aquatic was across from us and made a great friend. I grab a Godzilla bounce and a TCK Master torch from him and can't wait to see that bounce grow!!! Had to man his booth several times since he's so busy chatting up with people all over the room.  Was about to sell all his stuff for $5.

If the disorder continues to worsen, a linear air pump does a great job to aerate a dozen or more cultures on a single, more reliable pump.

I've used Algagen and Carolina as sources for some of my plankton, but it seems tough to find a single supplier with a selection of most species one may be looking for - Reed Mariculture seems to have quite a few, but I don't know if they bother making the catalog available to a smaller-scale hobbyist, at least, they don't seem to be advertising prices or availability outside of Reef Nutrition.

Thanks. I was going to do the one pump for the phyto but someone told me that they could contaminate each other through the hose that's why I separated them.

I did look carolina but didn't make the plunge on their disk. Might have to hit them up if I can't find any locally.
