  1. My 3D printer has been a great reefing addition. It’s gotten quite a bit of use for this build already. Screen top corners with cutouts feeding portal AI prime hanging brackets/rail hanger Jebao slw nem guards
  2. pair of mocha storm clowns will be going in, almost done with QT
  3. I’ve had a 20 gallon long running in my fishroom for a long time, it initially served as a coral/invert QT. I haven’t added any corals in years, and it had become just a neglected box of water. So I decided to spruce it up into a real nano tank. Most of the equipment I already had laying around, I also got lucky with the BRS black friday giveaways and won a free apex and marco shelf rock!… so I also splurged and bought another trident. My 120 gallon is basically on autopilot, so this will be my tinkering tank. Lighting: 3x ai primes Flow: Jebao slw 20 Jebao slw 10 Jebao DCP 2500 return pump Filtration: Magtool skimmer (cheapo amazon) Filter floss cup Misc: Apex/Trident Avast kalk stirrer kamoer x1 pro Auto Aqua ATO finnex heater inkbird heater controller back in the day: Now:

  5. sps are generally much more sensitive than lps and softies. Stability is key, not just hitting specific parameter numbers. To narrow down the issues, tell us a little more about your tank. Lighting, flow, dosing, actual parameter numbers, testing routine, ect… pictures are also very helpful. There are a ton of variables with sps success.
  6. I totally agree about the importance of microbiome, and I believe that it may be the single most important factor of a tank. But it is still so early in our understanding of it. And much of the UV discussion is in regards to the speed to mature the microbiome and diversity. But perhaps it will be found that in a mature microbiome it is beneficial to keep some types in check, which can actually allow more room for diversity. It’s certainly a factor i consider, but for now the benefits outweigh the negatives
  7. I started running the UV when i lost a wrasse to what appeared to be a bacterial infection. Aside from bacteria sterilization UV also apparently helps with redox value, which supposedly promotes fish health. The water clarity is also noticeably clearer. I have seen my nutrients jump up, assuming from the reduction of pelagibacteraceae consumption. But I’m generally happy with the UV.
  8. I sent out an aquabiomics test before adding the UV sterilizer, and finally got the results back. Pelagibacteraceae was the dominant strain in my system, which is free living in the water column. I’ll be sending another sample to see the impact of adding the UV. I think the results generally look good, but not very diverse. Anyone have further insights from these results? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. 1. My yellow eye kole hated my starry blenny for a long time, but now they are fine. I wouldn’t be too concerned unless the blenny is being injured or not able to eat. 2. The nem will move on its own if it doesn’t like the location. Leave it alone, but I’d recommend having nem guards on powerheads for when it decides to take a walk. 3. Totally normal for foxfaces to blow bubbles at the surface. Mine does it all the time. Not sure the reason, but it’s a common foxface behavior.
  10. on the way to fragfest dropping off a bunch of corals! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The only potential downside i’ve seen so far is my nutrients may have increased… but i’m not sure it’s related to the UV. I don’t test nutrients super frequently, but Po4 typically hovered around .25, now i’m at .37 ?. But I’ve also been skimming less aggressively lately, so that could be the reason.
  12. had a very slight ph increase, but i attributed that more to the increase in photosynthesis and additional alk dosing
  13. I thought my water clarity was pretty good beforehand, but since adding the UV it’s like i went from standard definition to HD! The corals must have loved the par increase, because daily alk demand went up about 30ml
  14. I rigged a UV sterilizer above the overflow box in the canopy, flow provided by the right side return T. I recently lost a wrasse from a bacterial infection, and started learning about redox balance relating to fish health… idk if redox balance is “a thing” to be concerned about, but supposedly UV can improve redox balance in addition to sterilizing.
  15. I will admit that first photo was taken under “gucci mode” blues… here’s the same colony under a whiter spectrum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
