  1. I am working this weekend. I will update photos on Monday. I got the tank in, the rock inside, sand in and half full of water Thursday night but ran out of time and energy. Will start again on my first day off Monday. (or maybe Sunday....cough cough).
  2. the manufacturer rates it at 528 gallons but the BRS site says 190 for heavy bio load.
  3. Ok the skimmer off my old 55 is a Skimz 143 rated at 90 gallons for "heavy bio load". In the 180g I am setting up I am looking at the Skimz 201 (rated at 190g Heavy bio load). Oh and I am looking at this because the skimmer section in my sump will only take a 9.25"x9.25" footprint. My main question is........is there a downside by getting "to big" of a skimmer as far as what its rated for?
  4. Thank you. It was easy to install and I think turned out well. I still need to place the trim on the edges and floor. First time I ever tried making my own doors as well.
  5. Take it apart and flush it out. Maybe something is clogging it and screwing with the suction. If it only a year old it should not be the motor. I have had mine 4 years.
  6. No problem, I don't take it as snarky. I try to learn at least one new thing a day about this hobby.
  7. Won't I be getting hair algae "spores" when I scrape the coralline, that will spread into my DT?
  8. That usually means there is no siphon/suction. Try unplugging it then pump the little priming toggle till water comes out the outflow hose into the tank in streams, then pump 5-10 more times and plug it in. If it starts then stops pumping pump the toggle very quickly 10 or so more times. This always worked for me.
  9. I was worried the brush would scrub the coralline off as well
  10. I may take you up on that, thank you. I'll let you know.
  11. I have two small pieces of rock in my quarantine that have coralline algae on them I want to scrap off to seed my new tank. The rock also has a lot of hair algae on it. Can I dip them in a peroxide solution to kill the hair algae or will it also kill the coralline algae?
  12. how old is it. And is it a rattling noise with no water exiting the return hose?
  13. The one I used to have I had to pump the little priming pump A LOT then still pump after I started the motor, that seemed to work for me.
  14. I had just mixed the kalk in my ATO and it worked great. But the larger tank im going to I think will need dosing not just kalkwasser.
  15. My two clowns are in there 10g "holding" tank having been moved from the 55 during this upgrade. every time I go to feed them they look at me like I put them in section 8 housing in some ghetto.
  16. Another question. Looking at then they look like they would restrict flow if you put it inline with your return or drain, so should it be set up separately to run with its own pump? Anyone have a photo of how they have it installed?
  17. Its like Christmas. UPS just dropped off my new Apex and I have trash cans around the house (the wife is getting upset) with 180 gallons of RODI water in them but no tank..........
  18. On wood floor yes. Nothing between it and the floor. Not sure if you can see in the photo the inside of the stand has 8" walls all the way around the base that are sealed with silicone and then Killz so I will have an extra X number of gallons before it could get to the floor. I also plan on having a leak detector through my Apex. I feel comfortable with this set up.
