  1. Ok shows no voltage in the tank or sump. So that's good.
  2. Ok here is a photo of the start to the stand for my 180. After this photo was taken I have cut the lumber to size but got cold in the garage and lost the light so I will post another tomorrow. I know its just wood but I'm excited.

  4. All the readings are good. Once when I put my finger tips in I got a "tingle" but not sure if it was from the temperature change when I touched the water or not. Just want to be sure. I have two cheap petsmart power heads in it and figured....maybe. For my new tank I have hydor pumps still in the shipping box. Gonna start a tank/stand build thread tonight.
  5. yeah all my snails just died and I read that they are very susceptible to stray current. Tongue is last resort.
  6. Ok what should one use to test for stray voltage. When I do a web search it shows voltage detectors at lowes but do those work in water? Never had a need for one of these before so not sure what to use. I know this questions is probably worse than my others.
  7. What size are you moving? Give people a heads up so they are prepared,
  8. Ok the black hard plastic rim that goes around the bottom 2" of my 180g tank is cracked vertically right on the corner. How much support does this plastic band give the tank? Is the tank integrity compromised?
  9. Ok I saw last week a post that showed a drawing of a stand build showing the 2x4's color coded for the size of the cut. I'm getting ready to start building and wanted to reference this but after searching for an hour I can not find it. Does anyone remember this post or know what I am talking about? Just looking for some ideas adding support for my 180g.
  10. could some water have splashed onto or near the power strip/wall plug that you use for the heater, there by conducting current only along the heater cable? (just a thought).
  11. Ok I keep going back and forth on the lighting for my 180g. I'm going to use T5. I was leaning towards ATI but not sure about the hanging kit. I have not used one before and the tank will be near my television so I do not want to much light being cast towards my face as I watch TV (if that makes sense, or if that is even an issue). I was also thinking about building a canopy and putting lights in that but the only things I see recommended for a canopy are sort of DYI retrofit kits. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone with hanging lights have issues with glare or I guess stray light bothering you? As always thank you in advance for your thoughts and information. Ed.
  12. home after 72 hours of work. Dug out my 180' driveway. Now looking to see what to spend my overtime money on. (Ooops here comes the wife, close BRS website CLOSEEEEEEE faster).................
  13. I work for Fairfax County and have been working 26 hours now. I have no Idea what my driveway in Culpeper is going to look like when I get home Monday morning. Not excited to see it.
  14. I know everyone see's my name in a post now and is starting to say "oh god not more questions"....LOL. But I learn so much from you guys/gals I can't stop. Plus I want to try to do things right the first time. Ok I have decided I am going with T5HO on my 180g and I am leaning toward ATI brand. My question is this size tank if I want to grow/support the most things (other than softies which I will have, not sure which way I will go in coral down the road) do I need an 8 bulb 60" or a 6 bulb? Second, the tank being 24" deep what is a good height above the surface to start hanging it? Thank you again.
  15. Was getting ready to buy Apex, don't think I will right now after reading all this.
  16. Thank you. I will continue to bother you all with questions.
  17. No problems in my 55 but I only had it up and running for about 6-7 months before I knew I wanted to go bigger. Only thing in the tank now are a pair of clowns (about 5 months old) two snails and two peppermint shrimp. All my other snails seem to die and I think its because the shrimp did not have enough to eat even though I make sure to put extra flak and pellets in for them (I see them come out to eat, but I also see them attack the snails and eat them). I think they got a taste for snails when food was low and that started the problem but that's just a thought. But I have been taking it slow with the 55 and have not had any "fish" problems. Plenty of equipment issues as I figure out how things work and more importantly how they don't or shouldn't. Also at first I got to caught up in thinking I needed to dose everything until I found if I just leave things alone with the proper salinity/salt mix everything seemed to get better and fix itself without me adding anything. I really love the two clowns and don't want to hurt them in the move. Oh I also have a very small tank (maybe 15-20 gallon aquarium) I plan to use as a quarantine tank when I get new items. Thanks for the post.
  18. Ok when you are all snowed in (I have to work during the storm) answer my questions. (Please). FIRST, please remember that I am SUPER new to the hobby (but I'm hooked bad). I am changing from my 55g tank to a 180g. I want to cut down on the cycle time as much as possible because my clowns are going to be in a temporary home as I empty the 55. Can, or should I use the water that is currently in my 55 and place that in my 180 to get it started? same question for the rock I have (or do I need to wash it). I know to use things like the bottles of bacteria they sell. Also I was just going to move the rubble and chaeto from the old sump to the new. I do not have any coral to worry about at this time. ANY and all comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thank you. Ed.
