  1. That's my 7 year old kid... Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  2. Went with a red bottom plasti dip style sump. I made my own sock holder and dividers with scrap acrylic. So my sump ended up cosing me less than $100 bucks. I have a 40 breeder and a 20 high for frags . Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  3. Yeah I want to move mount and plumb, then cut holes last . I would hate to cut a fan hole then end up changing my mind on placement. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  4. Step ladder , top is light and removes easy . Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  5. Equipment for the new sump also arrived, and my daughter approved of the purchases. My wife not so much....so the sump build begins! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  6. Now please note at this point my wife has came to me and said that it looks stupid and nothing like the picture she had made up....hmmm? I didn't think so but there is generally no point in arguing, so moving forward. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  7. So I used an epoxy paint and sealed all the seams in the sump area , I did this with my last stand and it would hold water with no issues for days. ( its unfortunate that I know that). Then the stand got multiple coats of oil based paint after the 3 coats of kilz oil based primer. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  8. Here it is with a coat of primer... Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  9. It's a concrete basement floor so we are going with Shaw 100% waterproof florte flooring. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  10. No, this is the first time I've built anything furniture grade, I have built decks though. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  11. This will be the home for the new tank ,replacing the 150 gallon . Along with the deal the carpet gets replaced per my wifes demand. The fish room that consists of a 65 gallon frag tank, 40 breeder refugium, and a 40 sump and all the equipment will be condensed to fit under the new stand . I haven't really used the frag tank, it just turned into another reef . I had all that plumbed together with the 150 through the wall. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  12. So I test fitted the canopy and and all is well could use a little trimming at this point but its good enough for now. I ended up using Masonite and finished it with drywall compound on the out side. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  13. My wife requested all white, I am going to go to WV and buy an oil based paint. One of the few places you can still get it. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  14. At this point I had the cabinets and book shelves built from scratch and started on the canopy, which is the toughest part because of the curve. We wanted a simple look so I recessed the doors and used a clean modern trim with shaker style doors. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  15. Really wouldn't feel comfortable with no center brace . Those doors are 35"wx24" h so it should accommodate most sizes sumps with ease . Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  16. So here is my result of skinning the stand . I used 3/4/inch birch on all finished surfaces and double layered the top so the tank sits down in the plywood to cover the 1 inch acrylic bottom. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  17. Probably a brown acro if some kind Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  18. That stand looks great, I really am a fan of the clean look of white stands . Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  19. And so the build began with me opting to make the stand rectangle instead of curved like the tank. I once owned a flat back hex and while I loved the tank ,I hated the stand because of the limited height, odd angles and dimensions. I opted to make this stand out if 2*6 to carry the load and to minimize the bracing. Also made the stand 38" tall so I don't have to bend over to look in. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  20. This my wife's version of what she wants the tank to look like... Part of the deal is I have to accommodate this being the upgrade is less than ideal in her opinion . Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  21. Good eye, yeah that's the sump for sale Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  22. I figured I would take the time to repost my tank build on wamas being that i picked up the tank from a wamas vendor . I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this tank and I've always admired bow front tanks. So it begins the upgrade from my 150 gallon to this 285 gallon bow front . I affectionately call this tank "The Sickness" because I feel this hobby is an addiction I am afflicted with. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  23. +1 on the lack of apex integration, I think my vectra l1 is OK, but it's weak in comparison to my old dc12000. Yeah it would have failed in a year or 2 but I could buy 5 for the price of 1 . I bet 5 outlast my vectra, being the controller failed on my L1 day 2 of use. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
