  1. looking at an earlier thread of mine I see that a 2 month waiting period was suggested. FYI those 2 fish and purple rock have been in the tank for a few months. I added the I hope has fullied cucled based on my tests results.
  2. Hello, Well today I finally added my rock to my 90 gallon. See below...any thoughts on my set up? Any suggestion on next steps...add sand, clean up crew, another fish? And where should I purchase fish? All I know is petco..and guys on here selling When can I start adding corals? Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
  3. hmmm, dont know...its one of hose plastic garbage can from lowes...how would you check for that
  4. The tank I am putting t in is established. Its a 90 gallon with about 12 pounds of live rock and 2 small clowns.
  5. Yes I am using rodi water to mix my salt and I tested it for phoshates and got a zero reading.
  6. hello, My 60 pounds of rock have finished cycling in a a closed up container with 0 nitrite and 0 ammonia. However, the water the rock is in is reading 0.5-1.0 phosphate. What should do?...keep feeding the rock and doing water changes until phos goes down? Or don't worry about the phos and add to established tank ad use phos removers, cheato, etc...

  8. Thanks, It has already been cycling in a tub for some weeks now becasue I do not have a tank other than the already established tank that I mentioned. Thta why I am trying to figure at what point can i move it from the tub to the tank that has 2 fis and some rock in it already.
  9. Its been a while since I posted as I wait for my rock to cycle in my BRUT. My Ammonia has finally went to zero after spiking and I aded some more food and ammonia to raise it again so it can drop again. Do I continue to add ammonia and letit drop down to zero until my notrites are zero? Since its tock that im putting in an establised tank..do I need to wait for nitrites to go down to zero? Its about 60 pouns of rock going into a 90 gallon with two small fish and 10 pounds of live rock. Also, SHould I check for phosphates before putting it in the tank?
  10. not sure if the pee in it suggestion was serious or not...if so... You are suggesting the following: put my rocks that I currently have in fresh water in saltwater w/rodi Pee in it (how much) add a live rock wait and check levels until I have 0 ammonia and nitrites I will have nitrates so do a water change Question do I do water changes while the ammonia nitrite thing is happening..or just wait until it balances out What else should I be testing for to prevent the "diatom and hair algae thread"...phosphates and....
  11. I was told that becasue the rock was dead and white, something should be added to assist with the coloring it up. The tank is already set up with water and the correct slainity .with ten pounds of live rock and 2 tiny clown fish The plunmbing is set up I urrently have the (duro drain or something like that) becasue of nosie and splashing in the sump a couple of people suggested Igo with the herbie drain system to assist with that and microbubbles. It looks liek you are suggesting.. Sand next, then rock, then top off (my water evaporates so fast) Thanks as always
  12. I am thinking about my $$ and trying to do things in order of importance..could anyonehelp me with priotitizing: These are the next things to do on my to do list: (not in this particular order) Add white rock that has been cleaned purchase the peices to convert my current corner overflow to Herbie Drain and then convert Purchase enough sand for 1-1 1/2 inches on bottom of tank Purchase skiimer attachment that allows skimmer output to be under water becasue its so loud Purchase glass cover for tank (evaporation) purchase supplements for live rock (cacium, purple up (ive only heard from marketers regarding this stuff)
  13. Im looking to purchase sand for the bottom of my tank. I am looking for something that wont blwo over the place when the fish hit ot or from the watr flow...any recommendations? Do you guys think its better to order online or is there a recommended place topurchase in souther MD area? I want about an inch of sand in a 90 gallon 48x18. Also I read an article about adding rock beore the sand so the sand doesnt get dirty while rock is cycling...anyone oever heard of this? Most of what I see is rocks being placed on top of sandbed
  14. I have come across some folks who say not to vinegar/belach/acid and just scrub and keep in the dark with circulating saltwater and others who who feel its better to acid/vinegar/bleach wash
  15. Thanks for the replies!, I am going to let it sit in the water for a while in darkness covered up and periodically brush it off. and power wash it after a few. Sounds good?
  16. Hey guys I think I messed up. I recently purchased some live rock from a member. The rock was mostly dry with a few damp pieces and still some coralline in some places. Im talkin close to about 100 pounds. However, most of the rock was dead and he said the rock (pukani) had been in his tank for about year before recently letting it dry out. It is currently in a new garbage can full of salt water with no flow at the moment but working on it. However, I used tap water and my tap water reads bout 126 tds. I think he suggested freshwater first...not necessarily tap water. Should I dump it or n I keep it and rinse in RODI before adding It into the tank. I've been reading lot about pukani and phosphates The rock looks like there will be a lot of dead stuff on it so do I need to add a shrimp or ammonia? When I curing the rock I am not trying to kill everything ..right? What about any pest he may have had
  17. Hey Tom, I am in waldorf MD. I have been trying to get my information under my ghost profile picture.
  18. Hey thanks for that info. Yes I do know that turning the adjustment skimmer impacts the water air mix. Someone suggested I double check the valve to make sure its on correctly and what not. I will do that when I get home. Thanks.
  19. HMM ill have to check the air valve to see whats going on with it. are you saying maybe it crooked or something? It is producing crazy bubbles and overflowing since I lifted it up 2 inches to be in 9 inches of water per the instructions. When i had it in 11 inches of water....it made lots of micro bubbles in tank but it did not overflow. Yes I do have bubbles from the drain. You say go full siphon by increasing pump power? Can I do that with reef ready corner overflow? The water pretty much stays at the same level in the corner
  20. Naw my pump isn't adjustable and I don't quite get what you are saying about the barb and valve. I have no plumbing experience. Ive heard about the siphon break hole but don;t know where the hole goes. I am using flexible tubing. FYI...its a reef ready tank with overflow in the corner.
  21. Thank your for your replies here are my comments: The water level in my return is low. I cant get it much higher because tank will overflow if power goes out. I do not have an auto top off but I will be getting one. How Do I stop the waterfall fashion from the center/eliminate that waterfall effect. I do notice many of the bubbles there Zygote, I will nee to find some videos regarding gate valve installation. Is the purpose of the gate valve to slow things down a bit? if you know any good ones that would be great.. I will need to order some filter socks right or is there a simpler way? This has been very helpful
  22. Last thing (not really) my skimmer instructs to place in up to 9 inches of water max which would make the skimmer out above water. I have read post that recommend having the skimmer out put submerged. Any thoughts?
