  1. The clam (sorry for the crummy cell phone pic).
  2. Holler. Definitely. Beyond just the physical space, the water volume severely limits the selection of appropriate fish. Even at 17g (actual water volume), there aren't many options. I picked up a maxima clam today from Marine Scene. I will post some pics tomorrow.
  3. Thanks. I love the urchin but if it isn't glued down, he will wear it as a hat. I'm constantly rescuing snails. Thanks! I originally intended to post as I went along but never had time to sit down and write it all out. Hopefully I'll do a better job now that I'm caught up.
  4. Long story, short. I started a CAD Lights 8G in August and posted a thread here. Turns out the 8g display area was just too small for me so this happened: Chris at PicO is absolutely amazing, btw. The customer service is top notch and the quality of the tank is really excellent. He made this to mount my light (XR15w Pro): A few weeks later, this happened: Then this: These guys came: This guy went for a ride (super cool urchin courtesy of PEA): Then this one: This guy did not care: Picked up some friends (lobo and green plate from ERC--awesome--and the helmet and orange yuma from Bn251--also awesome!): Hated my scape: Turned it into this: Picked up an MP10, Ice-T digs it: Got some awesome sticks from miggs76, Jason Rhoads and piper27 (checked out Reefer_Madness's awesome tank and met TrueTricia): Mounted everything: I wound up getting rid of the MP10. Here's the equipment rundown: PicO 20G Tank XR15w Pro Light CAD Lights PLS-50 Elite Skimmer 50w Cobalt NeoTherm Heater Apex Jr. Controller w/ WXM and AFS modules Sicce 1.5 Return Pump Maxspect XF-130 Gyre Pump AutoAqua Smart ATO I had to get rid of the YCG because he wouldn't stop harassing my SPS. Since his departure I'm slowly starting to see some nice PE on the acros. You're all caught up now! The tank is a little over five months old now. I don't have much in the way of plans, other than letting things grow out.
  5. I used Chemi-Clean about a month ago and haven't had a return. It also switch RODI filters (new unit) at the time, which may have something to do with it.
  6. I've had this thing for about six months now and it works really well (I don't use the booster pump). I have the DI cartridge and get 0 TDS. My only gripe is that 50GPD is super slow and it takes upwards of three hours to fill the 5G bucket I use for water changes. Other than that, you really can't beat it for the price.
  7. Well, it's grown considerably and it does appear to pulse just a little bit if I turn off the pump. It's coloring is almost identical to my xenia but it appears to be branching. Here's updated photos and a video: Couldn't get the video to embed, so here's a link: https://flic.kr/p/q29LTD
  8. Thank you so much. Awesome little fish. Just before lights out:
  9. I was thinking about posting the question: is it really worth having these things in our tanks? I only have two little frags with about 6 polyps each but I'm tempted to give them away. There are so many cool corals out there with less capacity to kill you. What's the general consensus on that?
  10. ^+1. Home cable internet IP addresses are dynamic but they usually don't change very often. You could setup port forwarding on your router to direct incoming requests to the Apex but Fusion is much easier and you wouldn't have to worry about Comcast randomly changing your IP.
  11. I have an 8G Mini from CAD Lights and I really like it. My gripes about the tank wouldn't affect you because they mostly have to do with the dimensions of the display area. The silicone job is great. The rear chamber could have used a little more thought in terms of flow but it was easy to modify. From my experience, customer service gets a B. You definitely have to stay on top of them if you want something taken care of but ultimately, they'll do it for you. Good luck!
  12. I was going to make it into a contest where the winner receives a frag of whatever that thing is when it grows up. Not pulsing as far as I can tell but it's still REALLY small.
  13. Well, whatever this thing is, it's growing. Here's a new pic. Some of the stalks are splitting mid-way.
  14. Thanks for all of the help. I wound up finding a nice xenia at Pacific East Aquaculture--I'm in Zone 1 for UPS so shipping was only $15; I just had to go get it first thing in the morning from UPS in Alexandria. I pulled the snail out this AM because he still hadn't moved, gave him a whiff and he was definitely done...totally rank. Thanks again for the suggestion!
  15. Do you have an experience with/suggestions for good places to purchase them online? I'm carless and overnight shipping costs about as much as renting a vehicle.
  16. Hello everyone. First, I wanted to thank everyone for being really helpful so far! My tank has been running for about 1.5 months, I have CUC in there and they seem to be doing well (aside form one snail) and I would like to add some additional life stock. My first question is about the snail. I have a snail that's been in the tank for about a week. He opened up once but has been closed for the last few days. Are there any tell tale signs that he's died? When should I take it out? Next question, does anyone have any thoughts about keeping xenia and zoas together in an 8G? Any recommendations on keeping them in general? Thanks for your help.
  17. I do but these guys seem to be doing fairly well. I'll probably scrape most of it off tomorrow.
