  1. You need to scrap your tank and start over with gold fish, colored gravel and a treasure chest. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I have a question about plumbing my 125 so it's as quiet as possible. It's a Marineland tank with an overflow in each corner. Each overflow has 2 holes drilled in the bottom with plumbing supplied to have one drain and one return out of each corner. Should I hook it up as supplied or set up a kind of Bean Animal with one side having a single return and emergency overflow and the other side have the main syphon and other drain? Any other suggestions? I would really not like to drill extra holes in the tank or take out the current over flows. Thanks

  4. Yes, Dave is super excited to be getting the lights. He's wanted to do a project like that for a while but the funding wasn't there. I'm really excited to be able to do what I can and help kids with their education and get them into the hobby. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Well there have been a couple of changes. I will now be lighting my tank with an ATI 60" 6 bulb T5 set up instead of the Evergrow LEDs (Orion twisted my arm). Since I already have the LEDs and can't seem to sell them I am going to donate them to the Belleview OH High School marine research program. You may have seen Dave on Mr. Coral TV recently. He plans on using the lights to do an unbiased long term research project on coral growth comparing MH, T5 and LED lighting. I have also changed my wave pumps from two wp-25s to two wp-40s on your recommendations. Things are coming along slowly. Pics will be posted when there is something worth taking a picture of.
  6. Yup. I was talked into the T5s. Now I have Evergrows to sell. Lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I used Plastruct Bondene Cement ( http://www.plastruct.com/pages/CementGuide.html) to put my skimmer together and only used the thick stuff to supplement the seam on the body of the skimmer where the joint was a bit large. Bondene is thin, bonds almost instantly and doesn't leave a residue. According to the Safety Data Sheet it has no known ecotoxicity and I have found it safe in my previous tanks. I bought it at my local hobby shop. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Good enough for me. Thanks for the insight. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Thanks. I'll check it out. Why only 7 months? Did you switch to something different? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I'm planning on starting the cycle using Dr Tim's One and Only and his ammonia. Orion recommened it. I've also changed my sump to a 55 gallon since the 40 won't fit under the stand and I get a bit more water volume. The it2060s are also being changed to the 2080s. Change is good right? 11. The build is slowly getting under way. I turned this: Into this: It went together fairly easily. The only issue I had was getting the top of the cone to fit in the groove. I had to sand down the sides of the cone a little bit so the top of the cone would fit into the groove on the top plate.
  12. Did they make nice with your angel yet?
  13. Yeah that's how I figured it but used 1" height instead of 1.5 and then added some for a buffer factor. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Planning my sump build and am thinking that leaving room for at least 10 gallons of water space for when the return pump stops and tank water still drains down. Does that sound like a reasonable amount? The sump is a 40 breeder. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I'm pretty sure that's Pennywise the clown from the movie IT. He's not a very funny clown. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I was going to see how they go and if need be I was thinking about adding a 3rd between the other 2.
  17. Thanks Ryan. I'll change it over to 2 200 watters.
  18. Hello all. After being out of the hobby for a long while I'm pulling the trigger on a new tank. My original plan was for a Nuvo 38 nano-reef in our living room. That idea was not approved by SWMBO. The next idea was an 80 gallon frag tank in the basement. The response was "That's not going to be wide or tall enough. Get something bigger." So not wanting to disappoint my wife I've decided on a 125 reef ready. I'll be doing a Bean Animal/ Herbie overflow. The other things I have purchased or plan to are the following: TANK: 125 REEF READY STAND: CUSTOM BUILT CONTROLLER: APEX LIGHTS: DUAL EVERGROW IT2060 SUMP: DIY 40 GALLON BREEDER SKIMMER: AVAST CS1 RETURN PUMP: RLSS WAVELINE DC 6000 ATO: AVAST WAVE PUMPS: 2 x JEBAO WP-25 REACTORS: BRS DUAL GFO/CARBON HEATER: 250 WATT EHEIM JAGER TESTING KITS: REFRECTOMETER, HANNA CHECKER, RED SEA, ETC. RO/DI: BRS 4 STAGE 75 GPD WITH 150 GPD WATER SAVER DOSER PUMPS: BRS 2 PART DOSER 1.1 ML/MIN GRAVEL: REEF ROCK STORE SAND ROCK: THE REEF ROCK STORE DRY ROCK – 100LBS Any suggestions on things that I may have missed would be appreciated. I'll post pics as the build comes along.
  19. At least he's not building it in the back where you can't see him.
  20. Did the jawfish build his house in the same spot that it was in before we evicted him during the "Great Ich Outbreak of 2014"?
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome. gmerek2 we lived in Amelia while in Cinci. I'm going to go with LED's to cut down on heat from the MH as well as lower maintenance. I'm gone a lot from home for work and am trying to automate as much as I can so my wife can do as little tank upkeep as possible. Hopefully the Apex will do that for me. Any suggestions on lights would be appriciated. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. After being out of the hobby for about 10 years I'm jumping back in. My friend Orion suggested I join up here so here I am. Back when I got out of the hobby plenums, deep sand beds and MH supplemented with VHO actinics was the latest thing. I had a 120 mixed reef and things were going well until the plenum decided to start releasing nutrients (my guess). It was a mess after that. We moved from Cincinnati to Columbus and the tank stayed and a new one hasn't been set up since. I floated the idea of a nano tank upstairs in the house but the "boss" nixted that idea after the mess we had before. I tried another tack and mentioned a tank in the basement. To my surprise she said that would be great. I was thinking about an 80 gallon breeder but we did some measuring and she said "That's not going to be wide enough. Get something bigger." :-) So now I'm looking at a 125. I have already purchased a Neptune controller, Avast CS1 skimmer, DIY sump and interface cables for Jebao pumps and the Neptune controller. My plan is to run 2 WP40's through the Neptune. I plan on running GFO and carbon in a dual BRS reactor and a fuge in the sump. Any suggestions on lights (I missed the last GB on LED's), an ATO, return pump, etc. would be appreciated. I plan on having an SPS dominated tank. Thanks
