I had one that lost surface area like that. I didn't mess with any parameters bc everything else looked fine. Ended up growing back all the lost tissue and is doing fine.

I understand shrimp sometimes molt with salinity changes. My cleaner molted within 24 hours of putting him in. Scared the crap out of me and I was so pissed that he was dead. He later was found cruising the tank. Hope it's the same for you.

I think this is a reefers rite of passage. Everyone has a "I thought my shrimp died but it just molted" moment

Send to NanoBox and have Dave retro fit LEDs.
Gut the middle two bulbs and add the LEDs
Forget the reefbrite strip maybe I should get nanobox to hook me up
Go nanobox, period. Dave Fason is out of NC and he does amazing work. I have a mono hooked up to a stormx and it is just phenomenal.
No I get no commish but I always plug his lights because they are that good.

Just let me know when you need my Master Card #
When Avast designs something new and useful, it's like they have their own greenback printing press! I want a frozen auto feeder too my Amex is ready now lol.

Ricky bobby the clownfish hosted this koralia 425 for a long time before he switched up to a duncan.

Thanks! I think a bigger tank once we get a bigger place. Right now the tank takes up most of it. I don't have a recent picture since I mounted everything off the racks, but here is a picture I took while I was setting up my radions:
Here is also a half put together video of my reef before I took everything off the racks. I also had a 20 gallon stocked with acros that I added after this as well:
There is also plenty of pictures on my build thread, Two tanks, One room. I will update it tomorrow now that the frag racks are finally taken down!
Haha, not much advice given. Congrats on your new 120, that's a nice step up!
Wow, that is one sweet set up. I can't wait to move so I can get things moving on a much bigger tank.

Looking good and really like the video... You make me want to try and hit up the DIY skimmer..are you using a wooden air stone to produce the bubbles?
This one has two generic fleabay basswood airstones in it, run off of a cheap two outlet pump I picked up from QR. You could get a luft pump, but depending on your application you might need all that power.

LOL I just dumped out two weeks this morning, stunk so bad I didn't take a pic. It was "dark tan". I'll snap one next time. I did post a picture in a previous post regarding zeozyme of my collection, that was an older design skimmer. That skimmate was straight black lol.

The title says it all, if you run a nano reef with a DIY bottle skimmer, give it a little tilt too boost production. Right now its dialed in wet but I usually skim a bit drier.
The collection bottle stinks so bad I did not want to film near it!

You guys think that's nice, Richard came all the way to my place in Arlington when I was getting the 150 up and running, and helped me plumb the whole thing. That in itself bought a customer for life!
Very cool

While I agree with all of the above, an owner can not 24/7 monitor their staff, as nice as that sounds. It seems like the OP has had good experiences in the past, and it would be a shame to not let the owner know so they could remedy the situation, just like John mentioned above.
Although I commend Rebekwl for not bashing the store by mentioning a name, IMO it does us a disservice by telling us "I had a bad experience somewhere in Norther Virginia, but I normally have gotten amazing service."I understand the need to vent. Instead of expressing my emotions in house, I'm quick to send an e-mail or write a negative review instead. It is less confrontational, and still gives me a voice, and you bet I feel better afterwards. In most customer service training, you will find that a good experience results in maybe one or two people finding out about it, a bad experience reaches to above ten. I would love to see some reviews on some of those "amazing" experiences you had, and hope that you reach out to management or the owner to share your negative experience.
Just my 2 cents.
This is why I don't trust Yelp.

My goby Sunny in his favorite spot at sunrise. His shrimp is off building somewhere I'm sure...

Too long. They are fun to watch but very annoying if you try to target feed any corals.

Yea, to be honest, it was my fiancee more than me that was affected when he died. I had to make a little coral feeding shield out of the top of a coke bottle when I target fed my corals, otherwise the shrimp would rip the food out of the corals mouths!
On another smellier note, in a hobby where there is no shortage of disgusting smells, dead cleaner shrimp are near the top.

Potassium, Potassium, Potassium.
Systems that use carbon dosing can benefit when Potassium levels are NSW. 380 ppm - 400 ppm
Test levels with Salifert Potassium test kit. Try it and watch the corals color improve.
That is the only one that I don't use. I need to get me another little blue bottle!
My current dosing schedule:
I dilute my zeostart at 1:19 ratio in a glass bottle that has been boiled in RODI. Just to be safe

Thanks! It's a labor of love.
No, unfortunately I can't have a sump where the tank is now. It is sitting on a marble shelf above two cabinets in our living room, that are built into our place. If we did not sublet our condo I would totally do some drilling and get one piped in. Right now I make do with my skimmer put into my modified Tunze streamfilter, and the zeo reactor & carbon bag in a modified AC 70. Once I get my hood finished up I want to rescape, right now the lighting is a bit uneven so I have a lot of the rocks and corals piled onto the right side under the LEDs.
I have flirted with the idea of possibly putting a sump behind or to the side of the tank, but when I researched online it looked like it was going to be more trouble then what it is worth.
I have thought about building a stand and moving the tank so I can put in a sump because I would love to be able to hide all the contraptions (plus the numerous benefits of having a sump), but my fiancee will have a s***fit if I spend any more money or time on this tank! Plus we are planning to move at the end of the year, so when we do, I'll be able to upgrade and definitely put in a sump, and a nice big skimmer to I can keep on overfeeding

I'm just honored to have THE Paul B comment on my thread :p

OK. I checked out BRS and the other link posted, but that's about 200 in little blue bottles just for the stuff that ridetheducati posted. Is there a MAP enforced for the Zeo stuff? Does QR have better prices than the ones at those sites?
Not sure about MAP enforcement, but there is little difference across the board in price on the interwebs. Zeo works, but it's crazy expensive.
Occasionally someone has a used bottle on the selling portion of the nationwide reef forums.
I would just go to QR and get coral snow and zeo bak, bio mate def enhances it but is not a necessity. Later on when the yearly zeo sale is on you could stock up on all the sups you want. CV is awesome, but like Ducati said it's only for well established ULNS, otherwise it will just amplify red slime growth.
-
So this is now a sump less 20 long, run with full zeo method. Would love a sump but no space till we move.
DIY zeo reactor, DIY airstone skimmer, DIY heater controller, with a nanobox reef and StormX controller for lighting.
Finishing up my DIY canopy this week hopefully. Adding about 50 more watts of LEDs as well as a T5HO with a kz fiji purple to fill in the gaps. I guess I like to build things :p
I def recommend the nano box, Dave Fason makes a high quality unit that simply cannot be captured in pictures.
I don't like the windex look but here is how the nano box looks.

Used the snow day to make 55 gallons of RO and start clearing the frag racks! Oh, and sleep. Used a lot of epoxy, and I didn't even overflow my skimmer! Everything is coming up Milhouse! I've had my powerheads on full for about a week now, and I've noticed a nice improvement with my SPS. Still getting some red slime, but I believe this is because of me feeding so much food. I am trying to feed less 2x a day instead of broadcast feeding 2x a day. It's tough, but my phosphates are getting up there, and this will be a nice slow/gradual change I can make.
Over feed and over skim. Fat happy corals and fish = happy tank!

I recommend the following products for non Zeo system.
1. Coral Snow
2. ZZ
3. Biomate
4. Coral Vitalizer (only for systems running nutrient poor)
+1 to this. Also, this won't help with your skimming, but pohls xtra does wonders for any corals. Increased polyp extension, good coloration etc. I'm also a fan of the b balance mixed with sponge power.
Tank help
in New to the Hobby
My duncans will stay closed for apparently no reason for a few days, then I will see a new baby bump. Corals are finicky sometimes params are fine but they close up just cause they feel like it. My 2 cents.
