  1. Im using floss on top with purigen and phosban in compartment below floss..waiting for in tank to be able to prevent some water bypass..may also have to plug slit in bottom of filter compartment front wall... See how in tank does w/o the plug first, then if needed can pkug with reef epoxy..8)
  2. Cliff..did u plug that small slit in the outer filter chamber face or did u leave it open??? I left open but can still plug if needed...
  3. Cliff..ur tight..spare 240 is not gonna get it once stocked..guess i will be going a step up.. Koralia 420/425 nano... Should be strong enuf...240 good for cycling i guess...
  4. I change religiously every sat or sun morning... I also have a koralia 425 also if not happy with 240... Prob 1-2 fish if any... Maybe a hermit and a fire or cleaner shrimp..
  5. Cliff, did u upgrade ur return? If so what did u use???
  6. Tried as best could to not put a real deep bed in..guess looks thick bcause trim on tank is black also..now the waiting game starts...couldnt do bb,just dint care for it even though easier to clean, have some frags(gorgonias)that still have plug ends nstead of disks..8( question,if i decide to replace my filter pump, which would b a good choice..? Heard marineland 606,but needs lots if mods, would tank b ok since i will be using a koralia nano 240 for water curculation?? Should be more than enuf water movement for sps.... Where r u st with ur tank matt??
  7. Well...weve gone wet!! Im plzd with rockwork, heater is acclimating for plug-in,just need my koralia nano 240 and my in tank media cage and im set..8) added 1gal change water from biocube and put in bio bacter by brightwell..question,should i have any kind of lite cycle(say 2 hours) or just go dark...
  8. I have a neotherm 50w from cobalt.. No one carries parts so had to order..took 2-3 days to get here.. Submersion on my spec v isnt a prob..full coverage..8)
  9. Ok..bracket for heater came in a huge box..glad i got free shipping,so after getting media bags tanks goin wet sunday...yipee!! I will b puttin 1 gal of biocube change water into the 5, then using clean water to finish...pics to come after wet...8)
  10. Sorry to hear about tank broil...ive had it happen too.. Not fun! Almost quit just after i began.. But still here and starting a new build... Hope all goes well with yours..8)
  11. Plus my d120 has more room before hits ceiling..its on a chain mount not a tank mounted system..8)
  12. My neo therm is a 50 watt(bedroom isnt heated during a.m.) i did the rockwork about 30 minutes before i left for work...the d-120 will definately be dimmed.. Im thinking the whites about 40% power to start, then ramp up slowly...prob about 60% in end...hoping any lps i do decide to put in dont hate me in the end....prob making wet on sat p.m.or sunday sometime..have a heater i can use while im waiting for a part for neo..then in 1st weeks of dec in tank has media container for this tank coming out....then a plexi cover for filter chamber or use the lid included(has BIG hole in top) depends on evap...calc/alk tests at standby when needed...can you tell im stoked?? 8)
  13. Well heres the first new photos of my new tank:fluval spec v tank In-tank media container(coming in dec) Neo therm heater(cobalt) Stock pump Koralia 240 circulation pump(coming soon) D-120 led light 5-6# dry rock Black moon beach live sand
  14. I just plugged in "fluval spec v reef" into the search feature...lots of nice tanks and how tos...8)
  15. Theres also some nano vids on u tube for ideas too.....as well as diy vids for mods on stock lights etc...there was one on there of a gorg peninsula rockworked spec....
  16. Dipg has a nice mixed reef done on a fluval edge 6 gal..check nano-reef forum..
  17. Yeah..i thought about a small nest to be a canary, itll tell me "yo,sumtin not cool here!" And i have my duncan and gorgonias too..not sure who will go where yet..may have some for trade when said and done, who knows...8)
  18. Prob not going to pack..saw a nice spec v with sps lps clam zoas on nano reef forum...was gorg.... Peninsula rockwork so could keep both panes clean and have view of both sides and front..plan on pulling some of my frags from biocube slowly..my cup coral zoas toadstool (would take back corner near output nozzle,i can adjust the height on my d120 because im using a hanging plant chain in the ceiling versus a mount bracket on/near tank...cant wait to get started this weekend..just waiting for new heater bracket from cobalt.. Then the fun(and grey hairs) can begin..
  19. Thats what im doing too;dry rock so no nasty pests;also skimmerless but with thin sand bottom..targeting january mtg to be ready for some frags..might move my zoas to this tank from biocube..candys and browns.. Going to try to do a "peninsula"effect on rockwork(notice i said try) and i would like a clam or maybe a nem in the far future...so many possibilities...8) id go bb but i dont like the look....reminds me too much of a discus tank..circulation will be stock pump supplemented by koralia 240...might snitch a couple pcs of live rock from bros 40...no pests(astonishingly;might be the cb shrimp he has)may start a build thread with this puppy..never really did one with other tanks...
  20. Silly fingers:pics posted and found out ... What can i say..fingers still asleep??...
  21. I always change water every week;5 gal spec so prob 2 gal change... Also somewhat silly ? to ask..how long should i allow for cycle if only putting in sps?? I will be using "dead" rock and "live" sand plus some changeout water from my biocube.. When i set up this weekend;hopefully, waiting for a replacement part for my heater(mount)... Using d120 led lite for this setting will be prob about 50% on the whites to allow for acclimation if needed.. Pice will be posted after set up..also gound out in-tank will have a media holder for this tank 1st part of december(yaaa) until then homemade...
  22. Thats what im thinkin too..start easy then try harder ones...
  23. I figured that..if i do it,im not completely in dark... I do have a skimmer and could use if needed.. Im aware of the flux in small tanks,i have a 14 gal lps dominate tank with shrimp and 2 small fish..my duncan has 5-6 heads and is growing 3-4 more;ive had it a year to 11/2 years...i know sps r much harder than lps due to needed pristine conditions, but i think im ready...saltie for 2-21/2 years.. Thought i would try 3-4 frags to see how well they do..
  24. Ive decided to try sps..but in a seperate tank.I have a fluval spec that is not being used... Im going to bring on slowly,i have an evergrow d 120 led for lite, putting in purigen, chempure and maybe phosban into filter chamber.anyone out there that has a sps dominate tank i would like to know what are good "beginner" sps i could try..im looking at trying for 6-7 months and if doing well i may take my lps out of my biocube and my 2 small fish and shrimp and put into the fluval....and get rid of the lps that r too large... Whats uour guys opinion?? Am i crazy to try this or should i gi for it...?
  25. Ive never hsd humidity issues with any of our tanks...we have a 20,40 breeder& a 14 biocube..most r covered to a degree... With loose fitting plexi or eggcrate...with a/c in windows we were having to top off ever other day or so.. But as far as wet feeling..nope..
