Here is a little back story.. So we have been in MD for little over a year. I started off reef keeping in ATL with the help of the awesome club down there.. I started off with a 14g nanocube off CL and I knew NOTHING about saltwater tanks.. The tank has in HORRIBLE condition, i am surprised the critters where even alive. I nursed the tank back to health and quickly got another. this time it was a 60 hex. I also ended up having a little 10g invert only tank. and the husband ended up putting the nanocube in his office and quickly fell in love with the saddle-back toby that was in there. Long story short we had to move from atl to NC into a much smaller place and it was only going to be a temporary move, with no clue where we were going to go next. I only kept the nanocube, but ended up only keeping it a few months because of the hassle. When we moved up here we had decided we would not get a tank till be where in something we owned so we could set up a nice hug display tank. After a recent trip to the aquarium, that all changed lol. It happend to be around mothers day so I kinda batted around the bush about getting a tank and he asked if that's what i wanted for mothers day.. of course i said yes lol.
So i looked for some facebook groups and someone directed me to this forum, which i immediately became a member of! I quickly found a tank within my budget and size. So a big thanks to mmouselovr for the tank and all the extras.
I did not take any pics before I painted the stand, but it is a nice custom built stand that was nice oak color, but all my other furniture is black, and the trim on the BC is all black, and i chose the black caribian sand,so naturally i painted it black lol.
For the aquascaping i used some zip ties for the bottom 2/3 of the structure to help me achieve the look i was going for with some shelfng and to help with the rocks falling. I was able to hid almost all the zip ties with other rocks, and unless you know they are their they are not noticable. Once the coralline starts growing nicely it will be undetectable.
This tank has the stock PC lighting, but not for long!! My husband is an Electrical Engineer, who mostly works on antennas and cell towers. I was asking him if i ordered a LED retrofit if he could just help with the soldering.. and after looking at the kits he said i can do you one better, I can build the whole thing and a controller for you as well. So that will all be coming soon. He is very excited about his new project.
Although the sand and rock where live, the tank is going through a little mini cycle due to the move and slight die off, so excuse the cloudiness, I will take better pics as it clears up.
As far as stocking is concerned, the kids have already insisted on a pair of clowns, and as "Payment" for the led build, a saddle-back toby for the husband. haven't given it much thought yet past that.. whatever looks nice lol.
