  1. It's the center brace, clean break. Perimeter is still completely intact.
  2. So I removed my canopy to throw on my new T5 fixture. I noticed the plastic rim around the lip of the tank top broke, from the piece that supports the center front to back. When looking at the tank from the side it looks as if the tank is bowing out slightly from the front and back. Is there an aftermarket part to support this part of the tank again?
  3. Yes, thanks for the clarification. 10 DKH, 178 PPM.
  4. Thanks Reefer! My new lights will be in on wednesday. I also plan on throwing in a few frags. Can't wait!!
  5. I've completed both saltwater and reef tests. Everything checks out so far but I had a couple of questions. I have a 55 gallon setup with a decent skimmer and two power heads. I have both live rock and sand. The tank has been cycling for almost five months along with a cleanup crew. I just ordered a 48'' T5 setup to upgrade from a home made power compact setup. First question, is my carbonate too high at 179? Second, my calcium is approximately 460. What is ideal to see my rocks turn purple? Thanks, Jeff
  6. Howdy again, It's been almost 4 months since I have started my tank. Since my last post, I have only added snails, hermit crabs, and a small crab. The algae remains green and everything seems to be coming along fine. I need to replace a couple of lights and I would also like to start adding more life to the tank. If anyone happens to live in or near dumfries/montclair and would like to stop by, I could really use help with ideas. I'd be more than happy to start up the grill and break out the beer or soda.
  7. Very good! Thank You!
  8. Sorry it's been a while since I have checked back. I have let my water cycle and purchased a water testing kit, but still need to use it. In the meantime I have brown algae forming on the sand and rocks. Any thoughts? I'm guessing this is the point I introduce the cleanup crew, but just making sure.
  9. I won't use it again. I will make sure to have everything cycled through before placing livestock in the tank.
  10. It is now updated.
  11. Montclair in Dumfries Working out of Davison Army Airfield on Ft Belvoir. Jeff
  12. Thank you everyone for all the info! I managed to clean out my pump, heads, and skimmer with vinegar. I filled a five-gallon bucket with two gallons of vinegar, soaked, and scrubbed. It worked very well. The tank itself didn
  13. Thanks Scott! I'll send pics!
  14. ROFL, very useful info. Thank you!
  15. Thanks, I seem to be geographically located exactly 40 minutes from the closest shop in every direction LOL........ I may have to start here http://www.blueribbo....com/marine.php
  16. Thanks! I had no idea I could use muratic acid. I've cleaned concrete residue off bricks with it before. I will see what kind of results I get with vinegar and water before trying it. I see the LFS Map link has a store called Pets Plus in Stafford. I happen to travel that way most every weekend. I may have to check it out. Manassas would be good too if a shop exists there. I would also be willing to go to Annandale and Alexandria and check those shops since I'm working out of Ft. Belvoir. Any incite on these shops would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Hello, I recently purchased a 55g salt-water setup with live rock and RO unit from a friend. I have not owned one in over 14 years. I am eager to get my tank going. I set up and purged my RO unit last night. I plan on cleaning my tank, heads, skimmer etc.. today. I hope to start putting everything together tomorrow. Anyone suggest what to clean the salt residue with? I thought I saw something referencing vinegar. I have also been trying to find a local shop that deals in salt-water tanks with no success. Does anyone know what the closest (decent) shop is to Dumfries/Woodbridge?
