  1. I am waiting for the glue to dry then I am pulling them out. I am also bringing the door up about a 1/2inch before I paint it.
  2. Tonight I finally got around to building my doser stand. Here are the early stages of the build.
  3. Jan, great thread! For anyone having issues id'ing "spots" just remember if the spots remain after quarantining in hyposalinity, they are likely not a parasite. I traced my bacterial infection back to a LFS supplier who kept all livestock in hyposalinity. After contacting them, they found that their nets were spreading an bacterial infection. The supplier was/is the largest supplier of high end fish and coral.
  4. I didn't find any bad reviews on the fixture but then again I didnt find any real reviews on the fixture. I don't like it because you can't dim it therefore you are stuck with its color. At least with the Sunpod you have you can change bulbs if you want different looks. I still say fix the Sunpod.
  5. Marinescene has a single radion over a 40b. Check out their setup before giving up on a single Radion.
  6. I looked long and hard for my light. Started out only wanting LEDs but ended up with a tried and true MH Sunpod. From what I gathered if you don't get a Radion(was too expensive for my blood), the next best thing is the Mazarra P-Series IMO. The wiring, controller, and mount is less than perfect but the light spectrum is far better than most. They run 5w Crees as well as a 420/460nm Actinic LED. If the total setup of the P-series is too expensive check out their X-Series. Slightly different LEDs but kinda close to the P-Series. I would stay away from the SOL. It was my first choice for looks and price but there are alot of horror stories about it because it doesn't have the spectrum needed.
  7. My vote is fix the sunpod. Or give it to me and ill fix it. http://www.marineandreef.com/150_Watt_Ballast_Current_USA_p/rcu01907.htm
  8. The carbon is there temporarily just to make sure water will flow through a granular substance. The bag(11.75 oz) of chemipure I have is too large for the tube so I cannot run it at this time. The smaller size bag(6.5oz) of chemipure should fit. I measured the carbon at 3/4cup(6oz) with some room to spare.
  9. No one has any input? I went ahead and finished the mini "reactor like" tube anyway. Maybe a finished project with pictures will explain more. Decided to try it out with some carbon for now. I have filter foam above and below the carbon to hold it in place.
  10. Id like anyones opinion on this. I feel like my chemipure is just sitting in my sump doing nothing but having water flow around it. I wanted to build something to force water through it. The simpliest place I could think of was the relief valve in my return. Water is always coming out of it so I put together a little reactor like tube to force water through the chemipure. Heres what it looks like. This setup requires no extra pump and was simple to make but there is one huge drawback. If the setup clogs, my pump will overtake my overflow. Luckily I have tested that even if my return pump chamber empties to the tank, the tank will not overflow. What do you guys think?
  11. I did a little DIY'ing this weekend. I found a walkthrough here on WAMAS to control a Eheim feeder via an aquacontroller. Simply put when a 12v signal is applied the setup, the feeder performs a single feed. http://www.wamas.org/forums/blog/13/entry-46-diy-automatic-feeder-for-aquacontroller/ Here's a short little video of my completed unit.
  12. I just saw the pics of them from your page. Very cool.
  13. I just watched two videos where a DSLR sensor (1) failed and (2) aquired a permanent pink crosshair after a laser was shined in the lens. Both were at concerts with laser lights shining at the crowd.
  14. I totally imagined going into the kitchen one night to find this.
  15. Too bad they will turn your tank into the Thunderdome. http://www.liveaquar...3+4&ddid=151081
  16. I stand corrected. That was awesome.
  17. If I remember correctly, the guy still had to remove the rock from the aquarium.
  18. I read a post where a guy used a laser to burn aiptasia. He had a laser from http://www.survivallaser.com. If you want a cheaper alternative, hd dvd players have a 405nm laser diode that can pop balloons, light matches, burn paper, etc. There are plenty of hd dvd players out there and lots of diy plans.
  19. I will measure my height above the water surface tonight. I'm guessing I am 7-9 inches above the water line. I also moved the corals down to around 15inches below the water line to better acclimate them to the light. The polyps are out much more when the moonlight is on.
  20. I was more worried about excess UVs. The fixture has the factory glass sheild. I am new to Mh's and my concern came from some new sps that has slowly decreased polyp extension since purchase. Thought I might be burning them up with UVs.
  21. I just recently picked up a Sunpod and while looking for replacement LED transformers, I stumbled upon this. www.current-usa.com/files/SunpodFAQs.pdf Last question/answer says that Current USA recommends a glass top under the sunpod. Should I put my glass top back on?
  22. This is a good weekend for updates. I finally got rid of the Biocube in a trade today. I thought I was selling the tank outright but the buyer brought along a huge suprise. A brand new Bubble-Magus dosing pump and stand. Couldn't resist. I also finally got the stand door finished.
  23. Its been over a month since I last posted an update and quite alot has happed since. Lets get started. First off the tank is now stocked. I add 1-2 fish a week till everything was in as well as added a few newcomers. Current stock is: 2 BW clowns Randals goby Tribal blenny 6 line wrasse Chromis Green Manadarian(thankfully eats frozen food) Candy cane pistol shrimp RBTA Second bit of news is my new(new to me) light fixture. I was able to find a 20inch Sunpod here on WAMAS. I love this fixture. Im currently running a XM 20k bulb at the recommendation of a LFS. Day 1 of running, it ran my RBTA halfway back down the tank. Since then, it has got all its color back and opened up twice as big. The pictures my tablet takes are all washed out so I cant do it justice with a picture. Only thing I did do upon getting the Sunpod was install a low rpm fan to move air over the water. I have had no issues with heat but the summer is coming so I am prepping. Fan install in the back of the canopy. Also, if you ever use a computer fan, go buy a 5v molex power supply. The fan most likely will have a molex connector anyway. I grabbed one from MicroCenter for less than $10. Little product review. My Urchin skimmer has been running great for over a month. All microbubbles have stopped and the skimmate is very dark. I am very impressed with the skimmer thus far. First coral added today. Includes a Green Slimer, Red Planet, and Red Milli. All corals are sitting on a Eshopps frag holder. (More product review) The holder is a little big for my tank and doesn't hold the black plastic plugs ORA uses as they are too thick. Also, the black plastic the holder is made of blocks all light and cause a shadow underneath. I'm really liking the Sea Side Aquatics mini rack as a replacement.
