cool! So no glue?

I am trying to learn how to frag a certain coral I am told is called a "leather." I bought all my supplies at the last Bulk Reef group buy but when I glue my frags to the little ceramic disks with the reef glue gel, they last about two days and then come loose and I have to fish them off the bottom of the tank.
I originally thought I had my rack too close to my powerheads and moved the rack close to the bottom of the tank. It is now not AS bad, but they are not holding to the glue. What am I doing wrong? Thx in advance

Sorry about the mis-post. I didn't know what Asterina was, so I had to go research and learn, found this:
GARF predatory starfish 11/25/01
thx

Just wanted to add a word for the refractometer. I just got mine from Premium Aquatics on sale for $48 and I love it. No guess work, it just is. I frequently got different readings from my hydrometer, and was frustrated. I am too new at this for tools to have different opinions at times. Thx

Petco has selected hermits and snails on sale for 0.99 each. You have to be in their club but that only requires an email and a telephone number.

I am still completely new to all of this but just wanted to take a second and thank you all! I have only had my tank running for about two weeks but have already spilled way too much water. It is threads like this that make it seem possible. Thx again.

Stocks are getting low, but the sale runs till the 15th. Thx for the advice

I added some snails from the sale at Petco and wondered a few things...
1. Can they turn themselves over? I would imagine they can't but wanted to ask to be sure.
2. I have few all on top of each other..are they cleaning the others shells or what?
Thx in advance

I didn't have the scratch but had the otherwise same problem, My LFS recommended the bead of silicon on both sides of the bulkhead and let it cure for 24 hours. Worked like an absolute charm. Good Luck.

Run this three days w no lights? Just verifying.

My new tank is finally up and !probably! starting to cycle. I tested water last night for the first time and all looked good except calcium....
Could it have possibly have been 720 mg/L? Also my nitrate tested out at 40 ppm.
I will test again tonite at about the same time as yesterday and post the results. thx

I saw reference on RC about putting a raw shripm in a new tank but with no real detail on why (I probably know, but would appreciate detail), how long, etc,
Someone also said to put it in a small piece of hose so it could be retrieved easily. Haven't done it yet, again haven't seen this here or any of the books I've read. Thx
Advice appreciated

My first SW tank is up and running and starting to cycle. I was reading on Reef Central last and saw several references to doing MANY mini-water changes during this process. I have a 55g and they were advocating a 15-25% water change every day. Could this be true? I haven't seen this in any of the books I've read (skimmed, to tell the truth) and don't think I've seen it here.
Any advice is welcome. Thx

I have two power heads coming up out of my 55G and wondered what kind of good ideas others had about how to manage the cords? I'd like to run them neatly up and out of my tank and towards the back. Thx in advance,

Excuse my newness. What is a monti?

Just when I think I am learning, I find out it ain't twue!
I am using a Instant Ocean Hydrometer and when I tested it again just now it seemed much better, down at 1.021. Makes me wonder what the impact of temperature is on salinity...anyone know?
I am asking because it dawned on me that the water in my mixing bucket was warmer than it is now in my tank. I wonder. Thx

I am bringing up my new 55G tank and starting to mix water. I am using RO-DI water, using Instant Ocean Salt Mix, and following direction to the T and my water-salt content is too high. Even after lettting it mix for days and making sure the water is at a decent temp it still tests out at 1.032. So:
1. Has anyone seen this?
2. Should I not follow the recipe quite as closely
3. How do I get back to equilibrium
Thx in advance

How many do I manage?? NONE! Still building my first tank. As soon as it comes together:
55 in the display tank
20 in the sump

I didn't understand this hint:
Pile up small pieces of rubble / shells / etc in a corner of your tank and just watch the pods multiply. It becomes an in-tank refugium. You may have to rebuild it every-so-often but I setup my pile 2 weeks ago and have TONS of pods of different types as well as worms crawling all around it.
Can someone please elaborate? TIA
