I use the ReefAngel controller, and recommend it highly. It is more expensive than some of the brands mentioned here but depending on what you want to do, would work fine.

I can bring 10 gallons. Thx

I use the small logbooks they used to make us keep for science fair in school...and while I don't write down EVERYTHING that happens to my tank, it does keep a fairly ice running record of the history of my successes (and failures.)

I am the same. I buy all my last minute stuff there, any fish I buy, etc. Make sure to get on their email list so you see the specials.

the multichip approach
What does this mean? Anyone know? Thx

There was a discussion in the recent past about someone that killed a bunch of their Aiptasia with Aiptasia X and it has adverse effect on their tank. Anybody got any thoughts on how much is too much? I probably used 1/2 of one of the included syringe today and stopped. Advice welcome. Thanks

Man, it's tough to fight again market share! The Reef Angel will also do all those things with the full expandability of the Apex and the others. Guess it's just a matter of which you have, which you want, and what your buddies have and might can help you with.
I do appreciate all the discussion on the board of late about controllers, other than Chad wanting to build his own , we haven't done that much. So keep up the discussion, anyone want to see the Reef Angel, let me know. Thanks

I wanted a controller for a long time but just couldn't convince myself to spend the money for the top of the line Neptune gear, but then found Reef Angel from a discussion on this board. Because I probably like the DIY concept of this hobby more than I do my actual tank inhabitants it was perfect for me. I do work in IT so I was able to understand the programming and configuration necessary to make the product a success but since getting involved the product has continued to mature and is now much easier to use.
I found it to be completely expandable, all the plugs, ports, probes, lights, floats, weather and sound simulations, monitors, charts, web apps, smart phones, reactors, chillers, etc., you could possibly imagine. You are limited to only what you can dream up and work with others to figure out.
Yes, it can seem a little complicated to start but there are now a couple of us on this forum that can help and we are trying to get others started. IceCool2 has some stuff on his website here and I do as well. Let us know how we might help, I recently helped a member for a little gas money and got to raid his frag tank
Thx for reading!

Is the durso making a gurgling sound...if yes...I've had success making a small hole and either leaving it as is or sticking a small piece of tuning in it ....it's made mine silent....dead silent
I have the same problem, except mine has the hole and the tubing. I have never really understood the science of this. How far is the tubing sticking down into the pipe? A little? A lot? Thx in advance.

sounds like you are off to a great start!! Let's see pictures!

I hadn't heard the theory on using Vitamin C. I like the point about being neutral towards acidity. Thx

Wow, this is really cool. Please keep us posted on your thoughts and progress!

This is very good. I am interested in following this thread to see how it develops. Good luck! Thx

Thanks for the info. Please verify if I am reading it correctly. These pumps run ALL the time AND stay on when the power is out? Yes?
Or do they just come on when the power is out, that is what I would prefer. Thx in advance.

Anybody got a link on the electric switching model? Thx

I bought recently from reeftopia.com and was very pleased, if you need a choice. Thx.

I am really interested in building one of these kits but every time I get ready to pull the trigger, I pull back. My latest fear is optics. I just don't understand them.
I will probably go with the 8 inch by 20 inch heat sink (on a 48 x 18" tank.) Would I need two of those?
They offer 80, 60, and 45 degree optics, and I plan to probably spread the 72 light kit out over that space.
Thx in advance for your advice.

Gotta admit, it's a great way to support your science.

Is anyone using AI Sols? I have 2 now, will be getting two more for the upgrade, but I think there was some other accessory needed to run them with the Apex. And will the Apex run vortechs straight out of the gate or will I have to buy something else for that too? I assume the standard grade ph probe is fine, I wouldn't need the lab grade, right?

I just checked with the guy that developed ReefAngel and he said support is available for the AI Sols. Reef Angel supports all channels individually and Vortech is supported as well. Thx

Just up the road in Gaithersburg... Welcome

I, too, am a fan of the Reef Angel. Depending on what you want to monitor the controller works fantastically. It costs less than the other products but does require some configuration and programming to do some of the specialized options. I do some programming if you need the help and would be happy to show you what I doing. Check out my web site for some screen shots and ideas for some of the things available. Thx

There is much discussion about a sale starting at Petco in the next few days, Tanks for $1 gallon and they probably sell stands and everything else. Oughta save you a lot of money.
Controller Advise...

Reef Angel is the same way. You have to be able to access the routers to control in-bound access. Thx
