  1. I try to feed 3-4 times a day. The fish I keep require multiple feedings. I keep barebottom tanks that I clean detritus easily.
  2. They also sell a 5L which will do 6 cartridges for $65. There shipping is a bit pricey but still you will save a lot of $$ going this direction
  3. Buy bulk with spectrapure. A 10L max cap makes 12 max cap cartridges and runs $120 plus shipping. Also consider buying the non color changing resin as the life of the cartridge is about 10% More. Run you TDS at the discharge of the max cap to determine when to change. Obviously you would have to change the media but a huge savings over individual cartridges.
  4. Thanks for your insight. I did not realize they are jumpers! Guess I better get started on some tops! Seems like I count them every day and so far so good. Only time will tell and I will try to feed them as much as possible and keep track of any loses. Thanks
  5. Thanks, just been letting things settle and will be adding a lot of sticks shortly.
  6. Another WAMAS member recomended these fish to me and I then began to read everything I could online. They require multiple feedings daily and an enviroment with non aggressive tank mates. I was going to add a couple tangs but I may just go with smaller more passive fish? From everything I read they can be kept long term. I have had these for a little over a week and you would be suprised at how much they can eat! Thanks
  7. Been letting the tank settle for the last month or so and just now added a couple of fish. Got these off of DD they are red spot cardinals (along with a copperband which is in quarantine), They are the coolest fish I have ever owned and bounce around the tank in a school. My understanding is that they are tough fish to keep and ship. I had ordered 10 and had a 1 DOA but the other 9 have been doing great. Looks like my nem has found a place also.
  8. They are wall sconces that I removed. Looking for a cool reef related fixture to replace "down the road".
  9. The problem is the lower I turn down the return pump the water line in the return goes down and causes the waterfall noise. When I turn up the return pump the water line rises and Solves the waterfall noise but creates a wistling noise from drawing too much water? Hope that makes sense.
  10. Almost there! Just ordered new ballasts/light bulbs for the lighting which should be here first of next week. I am looking for a solution for my return to quiet down. Getting a waterfall noise pretty bad and when I open up the flow to quiet down the water noise "fill up the return higher" I am getting a more annoying air sucking sound. I have added tubing on the airways which has helped but not enough. Drill a bigger hole? Anyone have any suggestions?
  11. Thanks. Yeah, the stand went over an exsisting vent. It worked out that I was able to run the pipes through the exsisting cavity "no drilling the hardwood" and just replaced the HVAC line with a smaller size 4" to feed that vent that you see.
  12. After a couple of very late nights I completed the plumbing to my basement sump. The only dissapointment was that my Sea Squid did not come in and had to rig the supply line in my stand. Should be just an easy swap but I was hoping to put it behind me. Anyways got rock and water flowing in the tank! All but one of the pieces of rock have been in my sump for years and thinking of just running the tank with no lights for a week or so. I will get the hood and lights hung and ready to roll this week and fire them beginning of next week. Now I need to work on my fish list? Was thinking about a powder blue, yellow, and my Kohl tang that is in one of my basement tanks. I have also wanted a copperband so that will be on the list. Others making the move will be my clowns, 3 chromis, 1 fat head anthias, 2 wrasses, 1 nem "hope it does not move around a lot!"
  13. Thanks for the kind words everyone! Getting excited about it.
  14. Thanks! Going to use 2 400w MH and 3 T-5 actinic. The hood will stay as is with no top
  15. Making progress! Finished painting the stand "Doors still not installed" and got the top and tank in place.
  16. Here is a pic of my nem. The baby is behind it and you can see the smaller tentacles. Momma lost a little color during this process but is starting to regain day by day. The baby has the green in it that mom had just recently lost. I am thinking just from the process of splitting? Wish I could take better pics.
  17. Well, been a long weekend. Here is an update on progress. I decided to get the hood done as well so I took a few ideas I saw and tried to make the hood as light as possible and easy to move equipment. Below is what I came up with and actually think it will work well. The canopy will hang from the ceiling "not sure on what chain, wire/cable". The equipment will just be able to hang on slats of wood and be positioned wherever I need as I built a lip to allow me to move equipment. Also built this without any ladder framing. The stand is primed and I have made all of the doors and side panels. Just need to finish priming everything tonight and I should be just left with a couple coats of my finishing paint. I still hate painting LOL.
  18. I own gonzo's nem. Bought it directly from him a couple years ago It just split a couple of weeks ago. May sell it but still deciding if I want to move it in my new tank I am setting up.
  19. Yeah most of the top will be covered. Only about an 1 1/2" projection. Should be a nice contrast and worth the gamble for $200. Plus I do not have to make the top and paint it!
  20. LOL. I am usually impatient and had some free time. Actually going to order the granite top tomorrow morning and should have the stand built by the end of the weekend. With any luck I will have the stand-top-tank in place by the end of next week.
  21. Tonights update. Just need to make some doors and the false panels on the side. Oh and paint "which I hate doing!"
  22. Here is tonights update. I found a pic of a stand I built a couple of years ago that I really liked. This one will be very similiar except for the top. I did not detail to much of the assembly of the cabinet but I was able to get the shell done and am happy with it. Originally I was going to add a center style but once I started laying out the face frame I thought the two openings would be to small if I ever decided to add a sump under the stand. Old build Shell
  23. Going to actually tie this into my basement sump "100g tub" with a blueline 70 as the feed. The location of the tank is about 10' away from the sump in the basement and pretty much inline so really straight forward. I have two registers for my HVAC in my office and one of them is dead center of where I want the tank to sit. Going to take that register and boot out and run the plumbing through that void. This way I do not need to drill the hardwood. I should have enough room to just go back with a smaller 4"-6" flexible pipe and run the register in the toe kick of the stand. As far as lighting goes I originally thought of 2 400w halides but am considering just buying new 250w ballasts and converting. My aquascape this time is just going to be two piles of rock "one larger than the other" so I think the 250's will be just fine. Got some free time this week and should be able to make a lot of progress. Thanks! Will take a lot of pics!
  24. Thanks for everyones kind words. Look forward to the process and the support. Going to have to make sure everything is laying flat and true so not to crack the granite but should not be a problem.
