  1. Thanks for the advice. I've actually slowed it down some more. I'm still waiting to see if another drop comes out, it just takes sooo long hehe. This is my first drilled tank and I'm just hoping I did things right. I also found another really small leak out of the overflow bulkhead's threading. I have tape on it but I must have done something wrong with that. I've plugged that leak with some silicon (aquarium safe), I hope. Thanks again! Tony
  2. I have a very small leak at my connection of SQWD Device on my new "experimental" 20g. I filled my tank yesterday with tap water to do a leak test and found a small bubble of water will form about every 2 hours or so. My question is how should I fix it. I was thinking of turning the hose clamp around to see if that helps. The screw is on the back side of the SQWD and I have it as tight as I can go with it in that position. I don't have any leaks at the other two connections. I hope to have pics up and saltwater in later today. Thanks Tony
  3. I've seen people put a T junction in their return to feed back into the sump/refugium with a valve to control the flow. I'm no plumbing expert so I'm not sure if that will work in your case. Tony
  4. I've been trying to find a LFS that I can call my own but being out in the wilds of WV, it's a little bit tougher to find one. So far these are places I've been with a little bit of what I observered. Pugh's Pet Center in Hagerstown MD. No longer open. Had a great selection of tanks but the live stock was iffy. Rick's Fish and Pet Supply in Frederick MD. Very cramped store with alot of different products, prices where on the high side but did in a pinch when I needed to get some Purigen. The fish tanks are very dirty and most had aptasia in them. Mr. Coral in Frederick Md. Great Looking coral. On the skimpy side for fish and dry goods. Great customer service. Winchester Pet and Aquarium Center in Winchester, VA. Friendly staff, but never felt comfortable with their live selection. Got some macroalgae and aptasia from them. The aptasia was free. I'm trying to make a trip to Livewire, but the last time I called there was no answer and was afraid to make the trip there. Close to me so still hoping to get there. I've hit Congressional, Marine Scene, Dr. Mac's, That Pet Place (Quarterly Trips for Salt), and Blue Ribbon Koi. Those have been covered pretty well so far in the thread. If BRK was a little closer for me, I'd be there alot more often. Marine Scene is my go to place for food and I got healthy a sixline and naked clown from them. Hope this helps with people out in the burbs and any suggestion on other places to hit let me know. Thanks Tony
  5. I'm in the same boat as you are. I just can't decide or find a fish I'm comfortable with in my uncovered 75. Love to have a tang, but tank is too small. Might go with the coral beauty suggestion but always thought they were coral munchers. Tony
  6. Did some research it looks like I will need to vary the frequency of the incoming AC voltage to control the pumps. I can use the PWM from the arduino it's just find the circuits for controlling the motors will be alot more complex. I'll move this to the DIY forums if and when I get into this. Tony
  7. Geesh where is my brain, I have Vortechs in the 75 and 29 but I have 3 Koralia Nano pumps that I was going to use on the 20. I should have reread that more carefully. I've been wanting to play with the Arduino board this just gives me an excuse. I'm thinking that I can switch a resistor in parallel to reduce the current going to the Koralias and will give me a high and low cycle. I still have to do more research but I'm thinking it should work. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks Tony
  8. I probably should put this in the DIY forums but this is also a howdy I just joined thread. A little info on the tanks I have and then the question. I currently have a 75g/20g Display/Sump system mostly a mixed reef with TBS rock and some corals and just a few fish. I also have a 29g Biocube that I won at MACNA in AC last year that I have setup up with mostly soft coral. A 12 aquapod that has been setup for about 5 months now with just some Marco Rock and a clean-up crew. Lastly this past weekend I setup a 4g Finnex picotank with the Aquaclear 70 modded as a fuge. So on to my question, I'm currently designing a redo of my QT 20g high aquarium, I'm drilling the tank and using the Glass-holes Super nano overflow with a 5 gallon sump. I have 3 Vortechs that I plan to use for added flow. I'd like to be able to control the the speed at which they run. Most wavemakers use a totally on and totally off system to control those pumps, however if you've tried this you know the rattling is quite insane. What I'm look at doing is using an Ardiuno to control a current/voltage limiting device, haven't dug too deep into it yet, to slow the pumps down at different intervals. Any ideas on how to do this will help alot. So again Howdy from WV, and it was nice meeting a few of you at the Pet Expo. Tony
