  1. Check out www.marinebreeder.org Their 2008 challenge was to breed Mandarins, and there were definitely some successful efforts. Specifically, here is the forum topic for the first successful entrant in the contest: Mandarin Breeding
  2. I have a pom pom in a 14g nano. Definitely the highlight of the whole tank, they're just fascinating to watch. If they appear without their anemones, they may simply have put them down when molting. If they can find them again, they'll pick them back up. If they lose an anemone, they'll often pick other small things up, sometimes including mushroom coral polyps. My pom pom does have a habit of being found on top of dead fish. I even watched him grab a very sick royal gramma and sneak him back to a hole in the rock. So the "opportunistic omnivore" thing is not to be taken lightly.
  3. Bob, I would love a mounted frag of the sarcophyton. I'll be sure to bring exact change to save you the headache. Thanks!
  4. I run a 14 gallon biocube and have had good success. Only really necessary modifications I made were to remove some of the wet-dry filter elements (bio-balls, sponge, grating) in the back chambers. As for other recommended mods, replacing the stock filter with a maxi-jet 900 lowered the temperature and increased the flow, and that was a very simple modification. I hear some Biocubes have the ballasts die pretty quickly due to supplier problems. I think I had heard the aquapods had leak problems. Definitely google around and get lots of opinions/information, because there could be problems with any of the brands depending on their suppliers. Also, you might want to investigate nanotuners.com. They have upgrade kits as well as upgraded all in one systems, in case you'd like to increase the lights for keeping more demanding corals. I used one of their upgrade kits to add a third 24W PC bulb to my system and I didn't have too much trouble with it.
  5. Very true. The staff was friendly and helpful, as always. I've never had a bad experience there and honestly, they're going to get more of my business now. But with the big crowds, it was pretty hard to figure out who was a staff member at first so that I would know where to get in line. I therefore recommend that AquaCo employees wear distinguishing hats during socials, preferably the one below.
  6. Hello WAMAS! I just joined here and would like to say hi to everybody. I'm converting from the world of freshwater, where I was reasonably successful. This will be my first saltwater tank. I've been researching the possibilty of setting up a nano reef for a while now after having seen some neat ones online and on display in the local stores. This weekend, at my fiancees urging, I took the plunge and bought a Biocube 14. I'm planning on setting up a simple soft coral reef. My favorites are definitely ricordias and zoanthids. Just gonna take it nice and slow with this first tank. I'm thinking this weekend will be the big live rock purchase, assuming my tank passes the freshwater leak test tonight. So that's my little story. I'll be sure to update with pictures and questions as they come up.
