  1. Aldi (the grocery store) is having a 6.5hp 2500w generator on sale in their store starting sunday for $199.99. Its not huge, but itd be more than enough to keep nearly any tank going along with maybe a fridge or some lights. I figured everyone would like to know. I'd jump on it if i had a tank (sold it due to moving). Careful though, they wont be getting many of these i imagine.
  2. try putting them at the bottom in case it is a light issue, possibly shading some if you can. I doubt its a light issue but this will eliminate it as a possibility. Do you have other corals? It could just be a water parameter problem if these are your first ones.
  3. If it lights up, for $50 it doesnt seem like it could be that bad. The things that most concern me are that 1. There's no brand name at all, and 2. It says "10k blue", whatever that means.
  4. Stealth heaters are really nice. They shut off automatically when theyre out of water, they're also made of plastic instead of glass so theyre a lot sturdier. I also like Pro Heats a lot, the temp adjustment dial along with the power indicator LED are both on the outlet as opposed to in the tank.
  5. You think a closed loop would use less energy then some sure-flow maxi jets? Id go with those. Theyd be fairly unobtrusive in a big tank like that and each one puts out 2100gph. I cant imagine how many watts a CL pump would be that puts out say 6300gph (assuming you had 3)
  6. Where does it say how much the 7 pound bucket will make? We just got our order and it seems like it makes more than 8 gallons of supplement. the "Total Package" definitely seems like the better deal. I totally agree with you on the pumps, its pretty hard not to splash yourself/nearby pets with it. You can save a bunch of money if you cut out the soda ash portion. After you run out of the soda ash you can just make your own by putting baking soda in the oven. costs a LOT less than buying it from them and paying for shipping. Edit: I did the math. 7 pounds of CaCl pellets will make 7.35 gallons of calcium solution that is 37,000ppm calcium. If you follow the recipe on BRF's website i think it makes it at a lower concentration, but then it will probably make the 8 gallons. (37k ppm is whats made with Randy's two part recipe. Randy being the chemist who created this to begin with)
  7. How did the exploding heater kill everything? Shocked the tank? Caused all the other equipment to turn off?
  8. You could try some formula 2 pellets. Formula 2 is for herbivores, my tang got pretty chubby off of it.
