  5. First there was one, now there are two. Pointy things, about 1/4 to 1/2" long, sticking out of my rock. One near the yellow leather, one further away. Anyone know? TIA!

    Brown on frogspawn: why?
  9. Amenone: right, it was starving to death. It didn't respond to grab food. Traveler7 helped me to buy silversides. We've been feeding it each day a bit (skipping a day here or there) for a week and, believe me, it looks LOTS better now than it did last week. Still a ways to go, though, agreed. The hammer is more tan than it was. We will feed them as you suggested. I'm so afraid of overfeeding that I've kept mysis doses to a minimum, but will do some feedings this week and see what happens. Other than that, the thing that's not great is that the frogspawn is turning brown in places... see other thread today. About GSP: WHERE would you suggest we move it? We have it high up, hoping that isolates it enough.
  10. I got email from Tonya today to the effect that she really just wants to sell the whole system, but will parse out if not. She'll decide come the weekend. HTH!
  11. Right: here's ours: Filling it up: Upper return manifolds on two sides: Engine room: Tank today: Hope this helps!
  12. This is Scott, the FishWife's husband. I just found out I need to soak my pumps in vinegar. Somehow, that soaking pumps in vinegar wasn't on the list I got in my start up pack with my WAMAS Thong and Junior Fishkeepers Decoder Ring. So now I realize that there are probably LOTS of things I never knew I was getting into when I got into all this... So, gang, here's your chance to make the world a better place for fish. What are the regular chores every reefkeeper OUGHT to be doing on a regular basis? (Please note--you don't actually have to be doing this stuff. You just need a guilty conscience that says you OUGHT to.) I'll start with the tasks I sort of know about: Daily: Feed fish check water levels inspect living organisms look for puddles Weekly test chemicals water changes? rinse out filters Monthly Move this month's fish out of quarantine (whee!) more water changes Six Months Clean UV sterilizer Check (change?) light bulbs soak pumps in vinegar
  13. So... huh. Sea horses get along with all these tankmates, obviously. I love sea horses.. hmmm. I have a Kole tang... and a maroon clown only already... hmmm. Might need to know more about sea horses!
  14. Email sent: Blue mandarin Midas blenny Firefish Possibly frogspawn, too
  15. My post above was badly worded. The NEM is fine. The fish piece fell on the frogspawn. The brownness started a few days ago, though... the frogspawn has got a lot of motion from the flow, so I don't think this decay would "blow off." It does LOOK like decay, though... or possibly algae growing on the coral's surface??? Does that happen? If it IS decay, what can be done? A dip? Cutting off affected tentacles? And, why? I think almost everything's good in our tank... maybe too much light is all... but we actually reduced the photoperiod over a week ago. Now they get 11 hours/day just actinics and 10 with the full array.
  16. Thanks, Trace... though, it's hard to follow the details sometimes, so... question for y'all: We've been feeding silversides to our 'nem (he's doing MUCH better now that he's eating ) and a small piece accidentally landed on one of the heads. It SEEMED to engulf it; and today, it's more colorful than other stocks. Should I be feeding this coral with meat? ALSO, some of its tentacles have a brown stuff... like, leftover slime? Just a touch... on just some tips... what's that?
  17. THANKS for the encouragement. I really find I prefer the motion and color of softies, and we seem to be inept with keeping water stable, tho I guess we're still learning. So... frag the frogspawn??? How?
  18. It's GREAT. Works perfectly. Here's an update: Here's the total tank as of 11/24/07: Here's closer up of the left side: And now, the right: Here are some of our inmates (for Ryan) close up (this is after 22 days in our tank): I'll do more tomorrow, Ryan!
