  1. BRK had it - only ones with thread/thread in the general area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Does anyone have any thoughts on who my best shot is to find a 1" sch40 thread x thread bulkhead locally? I need it today... I work in Herndon VA and plan to start calling shops by distance but was hoping maybe someone knew who my best shot would be. I plan to run out late morning for an early lunch to pick it up if I can find it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Looks like my husband is going to be towards quantum tomorrow so he may try to swing by there to start. I saw a few that are amazon prime, just need to take ours apart and see what will work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I think they were from autotopoff.com (or something like that). They are probably 6 or 7 years old now... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Looks like our float switch crapped out and I need to find one ASAP. Any chance anyone knows any local stores (prefer VA side) that would have any? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Exactly what they said. Do not cook rock with anything that could carry palytoxin. I went with bleach and acid (at separate times), and did it all outside. I used gloves (separate ones for bleach and acid) and would recommend a mask and goggles as well. I debated not even bothering with the rock but mine is probably a 30lb rock and I didn't want to lose it. My rock is now sitting out on the patio drying. It had a bleach bath for 24 hours, a freshwater bath for a few hours, then an acid bath for about 30mins. The acid bath removed the remaining GSP and polyps. I followed up with a freshwater bath for about 12 hours and It's sat in the sun for 2 days now.
  7. I'm actually in the process of this. I used stuff from the pet store as it was all I could find. I actually did the bleach for 24 hours, then sprayed it off with my hose, dechlorinated water for a few hours, and then an acid wash.. I probably should have waited but my readings were saying that the acid would get rid of the bleach... probably toxicly but it is outside. We are sitting in the acid wash now. I'm probably going to have to take a pressure washer to it next, pending I can coax my husband to get it out and get it started (the one we have is finicky and belongs in the trash). It took me over 2 years to get him to get the rock out of the tank, so I may be pressing my luck.
  8. Wow.. What was this, 3-4 years ago?? Surprised you have a picture of us fools. We may try and make it by tomorrow, just not sure how the schedule will play out. What was an empty day has suddenly become a list of things.
  9. I use gloves when I'm anywhere near my palys, or if I feel I may be disturbing them. I've had enough experiences with what we feel is palytoxin poisoning that I don't want to take another risk. I've got a pack of black nitrile gloves that I will rubber band on my wrist if I need feeling (and my arms have no open wounds on them), otherwise I have the giant awful coralife ones. I hate them, but I hate feeling like absolute crap from palytoxins as well.
  10. BRS group buys give you the lowest price even if you only buy just one. Each person purchase their orders separately and it ships to the individual, so you pay shipping if you are under the $175 threshold.
  11. It's hit or miss with them getting along. My diamond lives under a rock with 2 firefish and 2 blue gudgeons. My bicolor blenny lives above them in a hole. He can be a jerk at times though. I love my diamond but he's a real mess. My water is never clear as he lives to spew mouthfuls of sand everywhere. Drives me insane but he is so fun to watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. It really boggles my brain that it took this long as well. Maybe they had in the past and I never noticed.. but unless it was hidden somewhere then I'm not sure how I would have missed it. Or maybe they finally realized they are stuck with each other and they might as well enjoy themselves
  13. Time to start the hunt for 2 liters then.. Guess I'll put a request out to my neighbors. I grew rotifers years ago, as well as brine shrimp. Now to freshen up and relearn things. Here they are. She's the normal false perc (petco special), he's a black and white. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Stumbled across a batch of clownfish eggs on the back wall of my tank last night. Total shock as I've had these two for (around) 6 and 8 years. This is the first time I've seen anything like this with them. I just had to share my excitement somewhere as my coworkers think I'm nuts already. Not looking to do anything with this batch, but if they keep it up I was thinking about it. I know there are other posts so I'll be reading around, but if you want to direct me to anything I should be checking out that would be great.
  15. Get your wife to watch my 1 year old and I'll come help Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. We moved ours 4 years ago to our new house, and will be doing it again whenever we actually find our next place. The best thing we did was have around 100 gallons of water premixed and ready to go. I had a stock rubbermaid I picked up from Tractor Supply, plus I borrowed a second one from a member on here. I had both of these filled, plus some other containers. When we moved the tank we put all the rocks in various plastic containers (old salt buckets, HD/Lowes buckets, plastic bins from stores, etc) and put as much water in as we could so it would sloosh completely out. You can also soak (clean) towels and put them around. I can't remember if I bagged all the fish individually or if we put them in buckets, but I think we bagged them. Any inverts and misc things left were bagged. I didn't have a lot of corals at the time and my clams had sadly passed... leaving a tank in care of a family member for a few months is a bad idea. Learned my lesson. We had 4 of us that moved the tank (90 gallon), plus our Jeep, trailer, and a friends conversion van. We loaded the tank and whatever we could fit into his van, the stand on the trailer, some of the rock on the trailer (it was a nice day), fish and things went into a car. We started first thing in the morning and had everything at our new house 30mins away within a few hours. We used a stock tank for all the rock and went about cleaning and setting things up. We had it completely up by end of day. We did have a mini cycle but I had been making water constantly to stay on top of it. Highly recommend stock tubs if you have them/can get them. You are welcome to borrow mine. It's been sitting upside down on my patio for some time. I just pretend it is a plastic table as I have no where else to store it. I think it may be a 30 or 40 gallon? I'd have to look if you wanted to know.
  17. I just picked up the Red Sea Pro ones and I'm liking them for alkalinity and calcium. I still prefer my Salifert for Magnesium though. The RS one is nice, but it tells you to shake between every single drop. That drives me bonkers. I was just debating myself what to do for nitrate. I used to use API, but I wanted to try something different to see if it really is correct. My levels were always 0...
  18. I followed this, using a piece of PVC long enough for my tank (24" deep). If I get around to fixing it and your near me you can try it. I am hoping to do it this weekend if I can find the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I used a DIY majano wand that worked wonders. May want to look at one of those. I need to rebuild mine as I've got one in the middle of my blastos.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Here's the walmart container hooked up... Now if we could find (or build) a little cabinet for all that crap on the side... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I saw someone on RC using them after I posted this so I figured I'd give them a try. Only took 3 Walmarts to get 3 of them. I figured I was better off buying 3 up front so they all match, even if I don't plan to use the 3rd yet. Now to monitor levels for the week and see how things go before we setup the doser.
  22. Thanks everyone. I picked up something like the BRS one at Walmart tonight for $5. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Arrow-H2O-1.25-Gal-Slimline-Beverage-Dispenser-Blue/15915152 Was thinking of trying it out.. I just need to find another as the one we went to only had one in stock.
  23. As the title says, what are you using for dosing containers? We picked up a Bubble Magus doser and now need to decide on what conatiners to use. Hoping to see what others out there in the area are using to get some ideas.
  24. We just made the switch to the Hydra (not the 52) from T5's and love it. I'm still dialing in a color I love, but it is getting there. Our T5 ballast kicked the bucket, so we decided we try out LED.
  25. That's my problem with my clowns. They are both 7+ now. It's a love hate, but I could never part with him... No matter how many times I threaten to strangle him or feed him to the sharks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
